It goes up and down at the switch in the tailgate, but the dash switch only works one way. Any thoughts? I want to do some continuity tests, but its hard without another person.

Thanks

My guess would be that you got a bad switch or a loose wire. But then again what the heck do I know ? smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

That's about what I figured. Gonna mess with it tonight at the switch and see what I can figure out

Thanks

It wouldn't be the wires, because the tailgate switch uses the same circuitry as the dash switch (current runs through both whenever the window goes up or down).

It's got to be a bad contact in the dash switch itself. You can replace the dash switch, or remove it and try cleaning the oxidation that causes the bad connection.

the motor is working harder against the weight of the window and it cant over come some friction binding it up. time for lube and maybe some channels is my guess-timate. i re-habbed the front switch recently, it pops right apart using a little screw driver. be careful, work on a tray and watch out for the little spring loaded bumpers on the rocker. remove those to a safe place as soon as you open the sw up.

I had a similar problem, and it was the tail gate switch itself, it would work with key but not the dash switch until it finally died.Replaced with a new and improved switch made of metal instead of plastic. about$50

it's probably the tailgate switch. That's what caused the same problem on mine

I agree Bob...I had the dame problem on mine and that was the solution...Regards

Ditto on the TG switch on the LH side. Place some vac tube over the lever to make sure it gets rotated all the way back when the tailgate is shut.

The reason I don't think it's the tailgate switch or the safety-switch is because, in the normal resting position, they provide a completed circuit from the two terminals on the motor all the way up to the brown and tan wires coming off the dash-switch.

When you use the dash-switch, it directs (+) voltage to one wire and (-) voltage to the other in one direction, and reverses the voltage to the wires in the other direction.

If the window works in one direction from the dash-switch but not the other, then the tailgate-switches are completing the circuit just fine, and the problem must be with the connections on the front switch.

As Andy noted, the motor requires more power to raise the window than to lower it. The motor kicks off when it senses an overwhelming resistance (i.e. when the window is at the top or bottom of its travel), and if the contacts in the dash-switch are dirty, they aren't passing full battery voltage, meaning the motor might kick off prematurely.

Clean or replace the dash switch, and see what happens.
