Just finished doing the TFI ignition upgrade!
Wow, next time I'm buying the premade wires! What a PITA wires can be!
Runs well, though. almost starts like a computer controlled engine, runs much smoother than it did, and the miss/stumble at low throttle settings is gone! :D (the big distributor cap looks cool, too...)
I don't sense much increase in power, but I like the way it runs. smile.gif

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! :D

Good to here it! I'm next! What'd do for ignition module?
For coil?
7mm wires?
Tell more--this is comin' up for me and it's great to hear an overnight performance story.

Try these pages... Lots of useful information:
TFI Upgrade Page (http://fsjeep.homestead.com/TFI_Upgade.html) - Good pictures here.
IFSJA TFI Upgrade Page (http://www.ifsja.org/tech/electrical/ignitionupgrade.shtml) - I went for the "Mild Performance Upgrade" The MSD 6 will have to wait until my budget allows. Wires were a PITA to make up. If I were to do it again, I would get the wires specifically for a 1984 Ford F-350 Truck With A 460 CID Engine With ECC, like Gary suggested.
Good Luck,

Has anyone doing this upgrade ever wound up with a really hot wire under the hood?
I did.
My mechanic said it's so hot it's a fire hazard. I'm wondering if this upgrade is overloading this wire. It runs from the bulkhead over to the coil area, though I can't remember exactly what it connects to. Runs through the harness at the firewall.
He said I'd better upgrade the wire size, but I don't recall anyone saying you had to upsize any existing wires to do this swap. Do I have other problems?

7mm wires? Get the Autolite Ford ECC wires they are a 8.5mm fro less than $30 for a set. I did however snagged an extra 10mm Accel wire from my brother race parts stash for the coil.

I am in the process of the TFI upgrade. There was a question of where to mount the MSD-6A in one of the forums. It's said to keep it away from hot areas such as the engine compartment so I mounted it behind the grille just behind and below the passengers side headlight.

"Thick film integrated". It refers to a Ford coil.

That wire is a resistance wire and is supposed to get really hot! If you dont have this you risk killing your module so dont upgrade it. Mine gets really hot too, If the insulation is looking bad, you may want to replace it...but it will still get hot.
