I've found a wagoneer frame in a local scrapyard which appears to be in great condition, it does need new springs all-around, but otherwise it's in great shape. I'm considering purchasing the frame to begin my buildup, but i've got a few questions...the frame is a '77 with a 360 and q-trac (d44's front and rear, passenger side diff on both....I'm wondering if a 14 bolt rear diff is too wide to stick under the rear of this frame..(I'm switching t-cases and tranny's anyway, so the center diff will not be a problem) also, since i'm just purchasing a frame...i was wondering what bodies will bolt to this wagoneer frame...I'm thinking a cherokee and wagoneer (of course) will bolt up, but what about a J truck cab? I'm sure it won't fit with the bed due to the waggie's shorter wheelbase, but will the cab bolt up? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
thanks,

The Gm 14 bolt will require spring pad reloaction also if you are going to use one at least get the full floater. While the 14 bolt have a slightly stronger ring gear than a Dana 60 the pinion shaft is much weaker due to poor bearing placement so a D60 is actually stronger.
Yes the j truck cab can be used and find a Ford 6' step side box and use trailer fenders or Use a Ranger short box and move the weelbase a couple of inches. The ranger box with cherokee wheel flares would be cool and the body lines of the first generation Rangers match the Jeep body lines perfectly. I did the 6' box bit and researched the Ranger box to the point of setting it on the frame when I decided that the cab was too far gone to fix and built my current Wag instead.

Thanks alot, jeepbob! I like the ford stepside idea...the late 60's-70's stepsides would look great behind a J truck cab! As for the springpad relocation, that would have to be done anyway if I do the buggy spring, so I'm not too worried about that. I think the problem is finding a 6-lug 14bolt (if there is such a thing) so I may decide to go with the D60! Thanks again for the imput, see ya on #FSJ!

Jeep also used a semi-floating 5-lug D60 in some pre-'74 J-trucks. I think it used D44-sized axle-shafts, so it's not a whole-lot stronger than a D44.

there is a Waggoneer around here with a 6 lug d60, do these things exist, or is it a custom jobber?

That would be a custom jobber http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif
I've got a buddy with a 5-lug Dana 60 (modified obviously) on his 2000 TJ.
As for 3/4 ton axles, Newbie, I've got a buddy with a set of GM 3/4 tons.. I believe the front axle is just a HD 10-bolt (locker limited), and the rear is the smaller of the two 14-bolt rears. They'll need a lil work too. The rear needs a complete brake rebuild, and the front I'm currently unsure of.
Dana 60's came in 5-lug and 8-lug... I think 6 lugs are customs.
