Hi I am new to the wagoneers, I have a 72 w/ D27 & D44. I am looking at swaping in a D44 for the front. Is there a year D44 that I should be looking for? I have a line on a 89 D44 but am thinking that one from a 70's would be better.
Thanks for the help
P.S. I will keep the newb questions comming :D
Actually if stock your 72 Wag has a D30 front axle(1971-73). Unless you plan on swapping the entire drive train you'll need a 79 or earlier D44 front. 80 and later have the differential on the drivers side and you need one with a pass side differential.
So basically you're looking for a 74-79 Wag or narrow track Chero front D44. Expect probably to also have to do a R&P swap to match the rears ratio.

I have a matched set of W/T D44's from a 75 Cherokee in Tacoma, WA if you want to add a little width too..
