Has anybody bought the timing cover from 4wheeldrive Hardware? I just wondered how they were. If they were indeed brand-new. I heard some are used covers with the pump cavity sleeved. The machine shop that did my block has a new dealer replacement timing cover and filter housing he wants to get rid of (the $700 one) and I may talk him down to the $300 price that 4wd Hardware has them for, if the quality is comparable.

Krage Motorsports (http://www.jeepdoc.com) sells a new timing cover for $199.95 (P/N 8129373), a new oil pump housing for $21.50 (P/N 3226242), and new oil pump drive gears and gaskets for $14.94 (P/N 3184086K). I've had excellent customer service from them.

Dealer (AMC origional) do indeed go for $700 if you can talk him down
great but don't bet on it. All the others are sourced from Crown Automotive
and Brent (www.bjsoffroad.com) from the list will cut you a better deal
than 4wd hardware or any of the other 4x4 aftermarket guys.

Cool thanks. A guy brought all this stuff into the machine shop for an amx 390, then vanished, so it's been sitting there ever since, so the shop owner just wants it out. He knows it's worth $600. I saw it, still sealed in the chrysler package. Has pump cover and gears. I think I can score it for $300.

Personally , I would be tempted to buy it, if you can get the $300 price,
EBAY it and buy a $200 one from Brent. It would be pretty close to getting
one for free.

I also have one for sale if you need it, but it sounds like you might be able to work a really good deal...

The repro unit from Crown has received good reviews. You can buy these from several AMC vendors for $200-225. If you need more info, contact me direct at am401@juno.com

The AMC vendors are usually cheaper than the national 4WD places.
