View Full Version : quick starter solinoid ??

85 gw two little wires,one red the other blue-green in color.what one goes to the "S" trem. and the "I" term.
my computer wont let me get to the diagrame page
and i cant find my manual,must still be packed from the move.

I don't know what the colors mean but do you know the source of the wires? The "S" terminal on the solenoid should be carrying a wire coming from the "S" term on the ign switch. It'd be routed through the neutral safety switch if you have an AT. The "I" term on the solenoid will carry a wire going to the (+) side of the coil.

The best way to check which one goes where.
The one that has power to it when the ignition is in the START position goes to the post closest to the large post for the battery side.
The other will go to the coil.
If you wire them backwards, it won't hurt anything, the truck just won't turn over.
If you want, put one of the small post near the battery and turn the key. If the truck turns over (and may very well start) then you have the correct wire. If it doesn't, try the other wire.
The coil wire provides 12V to the coil during cranking. THis helps with the spark at low RPM but is not helpful at high RPM which is why it is only sent the 12V during cranking. The rest of the time it has less volts going to the coil.
