Ah, back in the day... riding with my dad in the Scrambler with the doors off and the breeze blowing in... We'll leave out the time when we went on a road trip to Florida WITHOUT the doors and it rained the whole way... ANYWAY.. I was wondering if this could be done to a Wag. Now I've never lifted a Wag door but I'd say it's pretty heavy and incovenient to be pulling off the hinges every time you want to ride open-air style. Maybe if you bolted up those CJ removeable hinges? Would the weight of the door put too much stress on the hinges? Could this be done? Any suggestions as to how to do it? I think it would be cool to have the convenience of removing the doors for a nice sunny day of trail riding. Any ideas are welcome...

This guy here seems to like the idea too: Rebel Rock Runners: Andrew (http://www.webphotos.com/view_photo.asp?mi=3&smi=2&a=35340&p=706839)
Now I'm not sure if he just took the door off the hard way or what, but I like that look. He has a BAD GW, and you can check out other pics at RRR Trail Ride Pics (http://rrrpics.n3.net/) Especially "Tellico 2002." Gotta love that GW! Anyway, any ideas?

I have taken off a Wag door before and they are not the lightest thing in the world. I would think that a CJ hinge could not stand the weight, but I wouldn't know for sure. Where would you put the rear view mirrors? I need them on my wag. I have thought about going without the doors many times to help with the nasty rides home from work in the 120 degree heat in the summer (it is coming)!

120 degrees?! In the summer here it gets up around 80-90 and any air you can get in a car without AC definitely helps :D As for the CJ hinges, didn't CJ doors only have one hinge? What if you bolted up two CJ hinges, would that help withstand the door weight? Maybe I'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way...

cj doors have two hinges. i think you would have a problem due to the fact our doors aren't compleatly flat like a cj. the hinges would bind up. i was thinking of cuting up a set of doors to play with and modifying the factory hinges with some kind of quick release. pulling out the glass and any other weight i could get rid of. maybe useing just the skins on some kind of tube frame keeping the doors curve. maybe even some plexiglass removable windows.

The big problem you will run into is that the CJ hinges go on the out side of the body and there is no way the FSJ frt fenders will hold up the the weight of a FSJ door. How about making up a metal frame work like the CJ soft top doors and then just running either a door skin or even a canvas door. then the CJ stuff would work.
I have the doors off my CJ right now and soon will have just the bikini top on it. for wet weather I have a set of the wire rack doors with a sheet metal doorskin (home made 1/2 doors) and am getting a velcroed upper window made.
