No matter what selection I choose in my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport,(Max,Norm,Bilevel,Vent,Heat or defrost) The air blows only from the defrost vents. Please Help???

WILL-E TOLD YOU THE VAC!!! THAT IS HOW THE VENTS WORK...BY VAC...OR YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE CONTROLS!!!!.... .....LETS TALK BLACK AND GOLD :cool: :cool: ...YOU MUST HAVE A VAC LINE OFF...THIS ALL A GUESS!!!!.....

Dave is talking about a baby Cherokee. Are the vent controls on these newer vehicles controlled by vaccuum?

Dave, you may not get a lot of help here since the little Cheros aren't FSJ's and they're quite different vehicles but some of us also have XJ's. I've got one but never had the heater stuff apart. The little slider/selector that you move to choose heat/vent etc is that connected? Does it feel like it's hooked up or is it just sliding freely as if not connected to anything? If it has some resistance like it's connected then as mentioned above "look for a vacuum leak".
The control unit/doors etc are all run off I think 4(?) different vacuum motors(inside the unit) with each having at least one or two vacuum lines from them. On something as new as yours the odds of it being a loose or disconnected hose or maybe a cable I would think is pretty good compared to an actual part malfunctioning. I would start tracing the vacuum hoses or the control cable.
