I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem:
There is the shift linkage rod that comes down from the carb which slips into a platic bushing, this bushing looks like a tall castle nut, the bushing is inside another rod which connects to the transmission. Well the bushing looks as if it is supposed to hold the rod from the carb in place. It doesn't keep the rods connected and my linkage keeps falling apart when ever I hit a bump. I can't get it out with out breaking it and I don't know what to ask for if I went to a parts store... Does anyone know what this is called or what I can do to keep my linkage together. Thanks greatly! I'll post a picture later if that will help identify it. FYI-its a 2150 carb and TF727 in an '83 wag

The assembly is attached at the top with a bolt to the rear of the drv side head. At the bottom it is attached with a bracket on one of the bellhousing bolts. I suspect your top bolt is missing.
Clue. the same bolt holds on the vacuum lines/steel lines that go down right here. (black, yellow, green lines)

Yeah, I had a similar situation. In my case, the bolt was there but the bushing was missing. I've temporarily fixed it with an e-clip until I can find the real thing.

i believe that rod you are talking about is the kick-down linkage. I've been working on mine for the past few days. still can't get it right :(

not sure if that will help, but no one had named it so far...
