This is one I made from 1/4" checker plate. Need to open the drain holes before I put it back on. It has stiffening ribs and stops as well as hangers so I don't have to hold it while bolting up.

Here is the exposed side.

Great looking plate & great idea! How much does it weigh? I'm thinking about making one for mine before it gets swiss cheesed on the trail.

I scuffed/dented my gas tank skid pretty good last weekend and need to do something like thisif you have a steel saddle tank they are pretty solid. i nailed mine on a fairly sharp boulder and all i got was a little dent. you can get wag skidplates but i'm not sure how it will fit a j-truck.

I don't know why that first pic went away. must be something with that site, can't generate the codes. anyway try this one http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/4243/2794280200069564115S425x425Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2794280200069564115sMMwew)

My skid hangs down about 2" to allow for a little deflection. This pic show the skid off. You can see the tank and the a piece of angle that I bolt the skid plate to. I've got a bunch of (not very good IMO) shots in my album if you can get there. Its having fits right now, sorry.

Al,I'm not sure what a steel saddle tank is. There are some aftermarket tanks that have integral 1/4" bottom. Mine does not, hence the skid plate.

its just the stock tank... i think earlier rigs had steel and later rigs (80+?) went to poly.
