My jeep takes at least 2 to 3 trys to start up in the morning. I drive it everyday so it doesnt sit that long. The start up consists of pumping once starting, it shaking and diening. It does this a couple times until it finally gets going. And even when it does, it shakes like all hell for the first 10-15 seconds or so. I tried pumping it twice, but got the same result. Its an 87 with a motorcraft 2150 on it. Could it be to lean/rich? Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for asking, mine does about the same thing. Doesn't really shake though. Sometimes I have to start it back up like 5-6 times! The colder it is, the more times I have to start it. I figured it had something to do with the choke, because I think its messed up anyway.

Someone should be able to help us out right?

Sounds like a choke problem....
Is your pre-heater hose hooked up? Check your EGR also.

Since my carb got rebuilt, my Cherokee will fire with one pump of the gas, two or three pumps if it's been sitting for a day or two.
Lindsey's Wagoneer just had it's carb rebuilt, but for some reason, it'll take two, maybe three tries to fire..... Especially if it's cold.
I think her EGR may have something to do with that, since it's rather sticky.

There ain't nothin' like fuel injection is there? I think sometimes we forget what life was like without it! Small price to pay for driving a FSJ!

I thick mine is a factory option on both of mine . The 86 starts on two pumps and the 89 starts on three. But if it is in the mid-teens outside I put a trickle charge on the Beasts cause it will be a long morning.

mine does the same thing, takes about four trys to get it to stay running in the morning when it is cold out. Ill pump it 2 or 3 times hit the key it will start and die, then on the 3rd or 4th time of this I can finally keep it running. I know mine is because of the choke mainly because I dont have one. I just put it as a fact of life and know I will have to do this every morning during the winter. Maybe someday I will hook the choke up,,,,,

there is nothing that works as well as a manual choke. I have them on all 3 of my rigs and never have a starting problem....phil
