I'm going to drive 5 hrs. Sunday a.m. to ckeck out a transfer case, hoping it's a 229. It's in an '84 GW. Not Limited. Bone stock. 360. Has the floor shifter Hi-Lo & dash 2WD/4WD. Is it a 229 for sure, or could it be something else?
Can anyone out there verify this for me, or should I wait until the owner can check the tag on the case?
Thomas, "assuming the 84 GW is stock", yeah it'd be a 229 x-case. The only other option in 84 was the 208 and it just has a mechanical floor lever for all modes and no dash/vacuum switch for 2wd/4wd.

Sorry thomas, I still havent gotten my 208 together yet and changed.. if your still in need of the planetarys when I get done they are yours. did you call 4xheaven.com?? they have all the parts you need too. and are good prices.. way cheaper than dealer. I was thinking about you when I ordered parts for my 208, and asked about parts for the 229 they said no problem. and by the way the viscouse coupler is like 300 bucks even at theyre price.. the guy told me close to 500 from some dealers
