Found a clean 79 Cheif. AZ vehicle. He claims no visible rust - I need to go look at it. 4 speed (T18?) and Dana 20, 6cyl. Engine is out - he lost the frame mounts. $600.
I really do not have time or room for this right now. But I have been wanting a WT Chero and this seems to be an awesome deal.
What say ye of IFSJA?
Buy it and deal with the wrath of wifey? Pass on it and start looking again when I have the time?
If I do not buy it, I will post up contact info here so that someone here can get it and give it a good home.
If it's the stock 4 speed yeah it's the T18A

Ah heck just buy it! Its easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission. It's only $600 and that's not bad for a rust free Cheif.
What's your plan for this one, another diesel conversion or are you going to stick with the 6 cyl?
Post some pics and more details when you get the chance.

Yup always better to beg forgiveness than to have to ask permission. Besides there are worse things in life than divorce. Getting married again comes to mind... ;)

Put me in line if you don't buy it if the body is straight.
Buy it and find a place to store it. Out of sight, out of mind. NEVER ask for permission, its always much easier to deal with the consequnces after the fact.

You gotta do it! Man was not made to get along with his wife! Rust free W/Ts getting hard to find. Trust me, I live in Wisconsin!

4bt/NV4500, 6" lift, 35's. I need something that I can pack up the family and go on some overnight wheeling trips. Can't really do that with the CJ and the Waggy is not a trail rig.
If the 6 cyl is good then I'd throw it together and use it as a backup vehicle until I was ready to tear into it. I think that will be the deal breaker - what would it take to make it driveable? I do NOT have any place to store another project.

frankly wives are a lot easier to find than good clean FSJ, unless you're as picky about the wives as you are about the Jeeps. but they if you get frustrated or tired of the jeeps you can sell'em or crush'em semi-LOL
been married twice, currently single, and more interested in a good FSJ than another wife.

That is going to be bad @$$! You really need to get onto that project. Anyway good luck on the Cheif.

If I lived closer you could put me on the list for the Cheif. But I think getting the FSJ transported would cost more than the buying price. Anybody know a cheap freight service?

Hmmm. Interesting turn of events. Wifey overheard me talking to a friend about the Chero and she started asking questions about it. Then she asked if I was going to buy it. I said I don't know and she said if I buy it that we could sell her F150 and she would drive it. I was like Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley? Then she said "As if I would ever keep you from buying another Jeep, especially a deal like that one." I told her it was a 6 cyl and 4 speed and she said "So what?"
Dayum. I love my wife.

That's awesome! Good girls are hard to find. I thought my fiance was gonna freak about me buying my waggy then she turned around and said the same thing!

You're a lucky man!
My wife got her car stolen so I let her drive the Chero in the mean time.
She managed to break in half the rear leaves, slit a new 33" MTR with one of the broken leaves, pulverize the front spring bushings, bursted the radiator, blew up the motor seals and water pump from an incorrectly installed serpentine belt, destroyed the fan shroud with a non-matching radiator, ripped off the rear air foil I don't know how and exchanged my Centerforce II cluch for a cheapo rebuilt one when replacing the clutch disc. All that in less than 6 months.
I don't consider myself lucky .

Sounds like a great lady you have! My girlfriend goes looking for jeeps and parts for me to buy, I just never have any $$$$ to buy what she finds, so she ends up buying the cheaper stuff!
Now you just NEED TO IT BUY NOW BEFORE SHE CHANGES HER MIND!
