ok,the two brackets at the top of the radiator that mount it to the support have broken loose from the radiator.
as i understand it these can be soldered with a propane torch and solder?just heat them till they are glowing and solder like a wire?also what solder, would it be rosin core?
thanx in advance. smile.gif

Get both sides clean, wire brush them untill they shine, use some acid flux make
sure the fit between the parts is tight, put the parts together heat and add acid core
solder, which should wick inbeteen the parts. make sure the parts are supported untill
cool then clean off all flux. May have to go to map gas rather than propane to get more
heat.

I tried soldering when the braket on my broke and it didn't work.. I had to go to brazing to get the job done. The solder would just heat up during normal use and then pop off again (too low of melting temp), when I brazed it I had no problems after that...

The bracket comes loose due to vibration. As mentioned the key to getting a good soldier joint is getting it CLEAN and using enough heat. It is best to pull the radiator to do it. At the very least you should drain the water out.

I used JB Weld on mine and it held for awhile. Then I just put some tie wire behind it to keep it out of the fan and still drive it. This spring I will fix it properly.

You gotta get it really clean if its gonna hold for any length of time, make it shine before even trying to solder it back. I did the same thing on my 83 Wag and it held for a few years.
