View Full Version : Carb Question to keep 2bbl set up
The Carb on my 88 is leaking out of the accelerator pump so its time to work on it.
I'm feeling a little lazy and figure I'll just replace instead of rebuilding it.
Don't want to go 4BBL so my question is about best replacement type? It is a California emmission type.
Don't really like the Local Napa because they rarely get part #s right the first time. Took me 2 months to get the correct rear drums for my 69 3/4 Chev last time.
Any and all advice welcome.
Thanks

If you're lazy, then you'll appreciate that replacing the accelerator-pump diaphragm is a four-screw, three minute job. OK, four minutes tops, if you add in a beer. Five minutes if you're already bleary-eyed drunk.
But still, a lot easier than pulling the carb to fix it.
There are few sources of good rebuilt carbs; most places end up giving you a carb worse than the one you took off.

i got a replacement carb for my 258 from checker, sucked, floats would stick. they replaced it. now it works, but it still sucks. On the 360 in the wag, got my local mechanic to do it. She's never run better. Get it rebuilt locally, that way you're dealing with someone you can gripe at more easily if you have a problem. Not to mention he rebuilt it for $90 installed, while the rebuilt one from checker was like $140 I think, and it still needed to be bolted up.
I thought about changing the diaphram but she has a few miles on her. Lazy part was doing the rebuild side.
Are there any aftermarket new carbs available for the 360.
My searching skills seemed to be a little lacking while I searched the internet.

I asked this question recently and the two popular swaps were the edelbrock 1406 and the holley truck avenger if I recall correctly. you can see the thread in the off-road tech section.

I got mine from www.recarbco.com (http://www.recarbco.com) ; a bit spendy but I've been happy with it for the last 2 years - no problems whatsoever. All I had to do was bolt it on, adjust the mixture about a quarter turn out, and verify the choke settings.

The ammount you spend on a rebuilt/new stock you could get a edelbrock or holley carb and get more power out of it to boot.
Thank you for the feedback.
What is a good new one thats 2 bbl.
Cant get edlbrocks site to give me any definite answer as to PN.
Holley site just shows reman carbs.
