It has been said a hundred times on this board that no FSJ owner should leave home without a spare ignition module. I threw one in behind the seat years ago. Yesterday evening as we were getting ready to leave our small farm, the truck wouldn't start. It had run perfectly the night before, but when I got ready to start it up it cranked but wouldn't start. The first thing I checked was to see if I had spark.None. I dug out the spare module, plugged it in, grounded it, and poof, it started right up. Five minutes later the module was replaced and we were on our way. I always knew it would eventually happen but was very surprised that it worked one minute and didn't the next. Be sure to carry those spare modules.

Yeah! I have a spare one in the Honda, but never got around to getting a spare for the Jeep HEI - thanks for reminding me!

My spare is mounted right next to the one currently being used. Makes it handy if/when they fail

That sounds like a really good idea actually.

The PO left a brand new spare under my seat in case he/now I needed it. When the original one died, I put the new one in and it backfied once and smoke came out of the new module. When I compared the units, you can see how cheaply the new one was made.

Which is why getting them from junkyards, etc, it usually a better idea. They may be OLD. But they were much better made! And can be had for cheap ;)

Me too. Back when my Wag relied on the cussed thing, the spare was duct-taped atop the other one. Now I just have a couple of extra GM ECUs on board, and an extra throttle position sensor, and...
But no spare tire.
