Hi guys,

Im back from the desert.

Just a question re swapping the 258 in my 71 wag to a 360 from a 74 grand wag.

I have the T15a 3 speed man g-box and the D20 t-case in my 71.

Can I do a straight swap apart from some linkages? from the 74 to my 71.

I may have found a 74 Grand wag for wrecking here and not at a junkyard.

Thanks guys

I get the feeling that this is one of those dumb bum questions.

Sorry.

Not a dumb question at all, the bellhousings are the same but you will need to change or modify the passenger side??? motor mount and reroute the fuel line to the driver's side. Make sure you use the 360 flywheel as well as AMCs are externally balanced and there may be problems with the wrong flywheel. I am sure there are more tips but that should get you started. smile.gif

I think that the biggest problem that you'll have is the 20.5" front driveshaft, and the 55" rear driveshaft that you'll need! I just happen to have a set, but they are still in use, at the moment. Not that my front shaft is worth trying to save, though.

Other than that, and the possiblity that you might have to move the towers for the motor mounts, it should be a fairly easy swap.

Well, there will be some issues as the 258 trans won't have the bell housing spacer needed for v8 applications. See this post for more detail:

I think that the spacer used on the T-18, isn't used on the T-15. I don't recall seeing one on mine, and I have the T-15/D20 in mine.

My shifter looks to be quite a bit closer to the dash than your setup, Lee.

Geoff, I'll look and see when I get home, and if it's not too dark, I'll see if I can get a pic of it for you.

Ok Lindel, I assumed this spacer was on all trannys.
Suppose it's not there, I haven't seen many t15a's but have seen some of it's brother the T150 and those are short boxes so I figured they had the spacer also.
That other post also has info on flywheels and such so still might be helpful.
Cheers, Lee

Lindle, thanks mate:)

Panther, I have a feeling after speaking to a guy here in Oz, there will be more to do than I would like.

Thanks again fellas:)
