Ive heard lots of good things about them off road. But ive heard horror stories about rebuilding and tuning them...very complicated carbs.

I've got one on my 72 and it works well. I don't do serious offroad work with it but it handles off camber situations better than my 1405 Edlebrock did.
Mines off a mid 70's(74?) Caddy. I'm not up on Caddy motors but it's from a four twenty something motor not the 500.

Now will the Edelbrock intake manifold work with the Quadrajet?

Now will the Edelbrock intake manifold work with the Quadrajet?
If it is a spreadbore it will.

If it is a spreadbore it will.

No, it will not.
Edelbrock does not build a spreadbore intake for AMC

The only way to get a Quadrajet on a Squarebore intake, like the Edelbrock Performer, is by the use of an adapter.

Here is an Edelbrock adapter from Summit Racing:
Carburetor Adapter, Open Center, Spread Bore Carburetor to Square Bore 4-Barrel Manifold, .750 in. Thick, Kit (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D2692&N=700+4294848589+115&autoview=sku)

i have a Q-jet on my wifes 89, i had it on a 74 cherk previously. i love it, 100 percent.

it is great on road, and off road. personally i do not find them difficult to tune, repair, rebuild, or otherwise 'deal with'. this carb came from a 1984 chevy 3/4 ton pickup with a manual. i like the setup (tuning / jetting wise) that i have the carb number written down on a tag somewhere, for future reference. anytime i find a carb with that number i will make it mine. when i find that card, i will post up the number here.

i changed the carb from a divorced choke to an electric one to work with the AMC.

i am running the carb on an adapter to the factory 2 bbl manifold. (yes, i am that kind of guy, i have no problem with 2-to-4 adapters. plenum size, versus runner size, makes it all a non-problem for a 4000 rpm engine)

anyway,

peace
Dave

I ran a jet on my 91 for over a year. Absolutly loved it. Thought I was having a problem and bought a new Holley to replace it. I am now rebuilding the Qjet and gonna put it back on.

Mines got a quadrajet, too! Great carb. I picked up a rebuilt one of of ebay for a '68 vette, and it's worked great with 0 tuning! I used one of these adaptors:

I did take a hacksaw and grinder to it, to make two larger and smoother openings to match up with the performer manifold I used. I also had to do a little trickery with some threaded inserts and a tap since it was set up to originally mount a squarebore carb to a spreadbore manifold, not the other way around. Did it make any difference? I don't know, but with the other adaptor, you lose any benefits of the dual-plane manifold, or so I told myself.

I have a Q-jet off of a large early 70s Pontiac( Catalina?) ran about as well as a non injected engine can, with good MPG( 14-17 mixed) ; I have the secondaries that open only when absolutely flogged.
I am also one of those heathens that would adapt a 2 barrel intake. Whatever the consequences of doing so are, I haven't noticed them.

Hey there folks... sick day = cleaning the office.

I found the card I was talking about. The carb number is 17080213 - as mentioned it was from a 1984 light-duty K20 (light duty, as in, semi-float 9.5 inch 14 bolt, 208 t-case, 3-blade fan on the little old 350) The truck did have an SM465 in it also.

The choke setup on that carb was 'divorced' (the heat coil bolts down to the manifold, and a rod runs up to the choke linkage). I pulled the choke housing off a married choke carb, and put a new electric choke thermostat in it, to work with the late model waggy.

I will add this carb number to a couple other recent Q-jet threads in a few minutes..

peace
Dave

Spectre #5773 is another option. Autozone & Checkers carry them. I have one that has never been opened I would sell for $15 and shipping. Also have just the adapter, used $8 and shipping.
