spitting oil

For a while my 258 has been leaking oil out of the back of the engine through what looks like the head gasket. Lately it leaks about a quart every 50 miles. I thightened the head bolts but still leaks. Would a bad head gasket leak this much or is it something else?

not the head-gasket, but prolly from a leaky valve-cover. I hope you didn't torque down the head bolts too much, i've known people to bust them off trying to tighten up a leaking head.

i would suspect the valve cover as well.

every 258 i've seen leak (heh....lots) has been from the valve cover but that has usually been the ones that had plastic valve covers. try a new seal first.
