Anyone have any post-deer-run-in pics of their FSJ?

If possible, speed and size of deer.

I am doing this as a project for shop. To see what the difference in impact placement, speed, and size of a deer have on the amount of damage.

Also, if possible add a list of items that list what needed to be replaced/fixed.

Thanks
Sawyer

Trust me it's cheaper to buy a rifle and a few boxes of shells and spend the time learn how to shoot it.

:funny:

Makes me wonder why a hunter thinks he has to sneak up on a deer or lay in wait for one:confused:

I think You'd do much better if you ran through the woods making car sounds and blowing a horn. :drivin:

Deer will come a runnin'

I haven't hit a deer with the Jeep yet but I did kill 2 with the TBird back in Oct and Nov. Approx 55-60 MPH . Octobers kill spun it like a top with pieces flying off. Novembers launched said deer almost vertical about 7 ft. up. No pics.
$150worth of Sylvania Silver Stars headlights and $300 of junkyard Bird parts for both times combined. Hood still mangled and fender corners starting to rust.
I got head butted by one,in the rear quarter, as I was going by at 55 MPH in December. It only took the dirt off in places and left what I believe is drool spatters on the paint.
Funniest was hitting the deer with the van at 70 MPH. It took out part of my front end but I had the coolest fuzzy bumper for a while:cool: . I knocked that deer about 50 ft.
I pass at least a dozen a night, waiting to ambush me, on my way home from work.

I did hit a motorcycle with the Jeep but that's a different story....:banghead:

Just read where MI recorded 60,000+ deer car incidents in the last reporting year. I'm not sure where you'd find it but I imagine the State Dept of Transportation , the Department or Natural Resources ad or the State Insurance commission should have a data base.

I see LOTS of deer in the roadways as I travel for my work. Fortunately I've only it one and that was one who ran into the side of my car. a Dodge Stratus, some years back. I had slowed down to 30mph or so when I saw the deer at the side of the road getting ready to run across. guess it misjudged my speed and ran smack into the side of the car. It only stunned the deer, it ran off before I could get out the PAX side with my hunting knife. But it did almost 1400$ damage to the drivers door and back part of front quarter panel.

Here's the aftermath of my encounter with bambi. Popped up out of the ditch and I hit her at 55. Hit absolutely dead center in the grille and punted her a good distance. She got some impressive hang time. The real shame is that there wasn't any good meat left on it for me. :p

Did the following damage:
Bumper
Grille insert/surround
Turn signals
Headlight
Radiator
Trans cooler
Clutch fan
Minor paint damage
Everything soaked in antifreeze

Luckily it missed all the sheetmetal and I didn't have all the pieces on the front end. Still did $2300 worth of damage though.

Wife and I went to Yellowstone a couple of years ago. On the first night returning back to our resort I hit an elk:eek:!!! Luckly I purchased the extra insurance for the rental. a 2005 Grand Cherokee (of coarse I rented the Jeep:fsj:).

Hit her at about 30 mph
To the left of the center of the car
Only visible damage was a large crack in the bumper cover

The next car down the road was a park ranger who had to shoot her twice:confused:.
He was on his second week from New York. Asked if we could keep the meat. He said no because we were still in the park. Went back the next day and could not find even a hair. I think he took her.

Same here on the "too loud-runs away screeming" from the Jeep.

I have a friend of mine that hit one going about 40 mph on a motorcycle..:eek:

He hit it in the belly right in front of the rear legs with the front tire. It sent the bike down into a skid and he (buddy) tumbled down the road. He said he looked up to see the deer prancing away like nothing happened as he lay there waiting to be air-vaced to the hospital.....

He still rides.......

I guess that rules out BMW's, Motorcycles and a host of OT replies.
Good luck on the project Sawyer.
I hope the remainder of the responses can deal with your request and why you need the pic's and info (which you stated very clearly).
Thanks,

I hit one a few months ago while driving my Honda Accord. I hit him in the Pass. front corner and he went under the car. I drug him under the car for probably 100' or so before he came out. No damage to the Honda! I was at a swamp here in GA and the deer there were all pretty small though. I did have a bunch of hair and fur under the car.

The deer was dead.

Here is the info you asked for:

I had been going about 55 and saw the deer coming toward me at an angle across a field. I hit the brakes and was probably down to 35 by the time he hit me. He went under the front passanger corner and got cought up on something under the car and I drug him for about 100'. When I got out the deer was dead but there was no damage to the car.

The deer was a mess so I cannot guess his weight. All of the other deer that I saw around there were pretty small though.

No pics- caught a doe last year as she came out of the ditch (blacktail, prob around 120-130 lbs soaking wet). Hit with the right front corner at about 40 mph. Custom winch bumper out of .120 steel and the factory brush guard cut down to fit it. No damage to the Cherokee- she was flopping around in the road, had to get a couple of cars around her while contemplating jumping on her to cut throat with ye old pocket knife. After the cars got by, she was gone, and over the bank staggering along a fence line. Went back the next morning to check and collect if she was there, not...Hope she made it.

Note-Amazing that all that one fits in a beemer fire box, talk about stuffing a suitcase:eek:

This is a picture of a deer that I hit in Louisianna while I was helping with the cleanup of Hurricanes Katrina/Rita. Living where I do here in PA, I average one deer a year with my truck. BTW, the deer was "modified" after the accident for the picture...yes, I am one sick puppy! :D
