The wiring is different for the cherokee but I'm sure you can rewire them to work like a wagoneer.
They should fit right into the open holes where the cherokee lights were.

If those are the three element version, and his is a euro standard rig with stand alone turn signals, should just be a matter of matching wires.

Did they use the back up lamp part for the blinker on the euro version?

This was done for the earlier than 80ish waggies.

Nope. The 'proper' Euro Spec lights looked like these:

Rare as rocking horse manure. Which is why most SJ's in Europe have godawful trailer light style lenses (box shaped) on them.

The 74-81 style like shown directly above only had 2 lamps, backup and running/brake/turn. Not sure how those are modified or used for Euro style tho.

The 82 & 83 Cherokee tail lights were same as the 84-91 GW tail lights. The top third of the assembly is for turn lamp, the next one down is running and brake lamp and the bottom is backup lamp. These are better suited for Euro use.

In Europe the rear lights have to have an amber turn signal, seperate from the tail/brake light (ie US spec). Same as you'de see in Jap/Euro cars in the US.

The idea mentioned above about using the reverse lights as turn lights is what i did with my YJ when i got here (using amber bulbs).
