Okay guys,
I've got the front almost complete. All that is left is welding the perches and putting on the u-bolts. I ended up with about 6.5" of lift. I've been thinking about building a lift block for the rear so that the jeep will be level. I currently have a 3" block and a 1" AAL. I was thinking of using 2.5" box tube and welding 2 together, putting in a centering bolt and using that for my lift (5"). What did you guys do and do you have any better ideas that get the best bang for the buck. I prefer to keep $ down to a minimum, but at the same time build a good rig. This is mostly my daily driver/tow rig. I won't do any rock crawling in this one. Thanks!!

I did a shackle flip in the rear... which gave me the lift I needed with no blocks....Click the photopoint link in my sig and go to the shackle inversion album...
If you use the box steel as you said you will still need to shim up the rear to adjust your pinion angle....

After I typed the post I remembered about the shackle flip. RB your design is nice and I may go with it.

jce, the idea of a 5" block makes me shudder! Think of a long lever twisting your axle every time you even look at the gas pedal. Can we say "springwrap"? Seriously, if you went that way, you would need to replace your springs, and likely your driveshaft the very first time you hit the gas hard. The shackle idea that Todd uses on his truck is awesome, and by everything I have seen on his and other trucks it works very well! I did a shackle flip on my '78 when I did the SOA and loved it! Factory or better ride, all that lift, and flexy too! :D

Todd,
Can I get some dimensions on how much you dropped the rear spring eye. On the front you indicated that the eye was dropped 5.5". How much did you drop the rear eye? I noticed it was moved forward and I can use the original bracket as a reference to position it. Also, how did you limit the shackle from hyper flexing? Thanks!! Jon

yeaph a shackle lip is the way to go but a little bit more comlicated than the soa so just be patient and if u are going to wheld them just tack unto u are sure and everything is level out

Hey jce,
Todd has done beautiful work fabbing the the rear mount for the shackle flip. I did my flip more recently and don't have the skills Todd has so I had the rear leafs redone with longer main leafs to solve the hyperflexing problem you get using the original mounts and a shackle flip.
I'm thinking of doing the SOA in the front in the future (currently have new Rancho Leafs giving 3") to get more in the front.
Do you or anyone know of any longer shackles available for FS Wags for the rear? I've seen them available for CJ's but not FSJ's.
Please email me any info on the longer shackles after posting any replies to this because I don't have time to follow my replies smile.gif
Thanks.

If you want cheap junkyard extended shackles grab some off a later chevy rear spring.I didn't measure mine but they look to be about 2" longer.DENNIS
