OH MY MY... You are an ambitious one aren't you...
I have a buddy who does this type of work to Chevy's. Having good access to parts is his advantage though..
Excuse my ignorance here but, can you find parts in India or are you importing everything you need. You will be way ahead if you just buy one a good complete Cherokee from somewhere and ship it in.
OR
You can peel that top off and wheel the snot out of it once you put something in it to....
Isn't there a truck company there that still makes parts for old Jeeps? Mihyndra or something like that?

hey hoot, you actually share my empathy towards building this!! kind of you and offering your friend as help to get me parts.
i plan to import most parts from USA, dont ask me from where, cause i dont know that yet!! :banghead:
as u mentioned its easier to import a complete car but customs/duty laws are very tedious here... i would need to bear 180% duty on the cost of vehicle other than shipping and registration which is an additional 45% plus miscellenous. And if thats not enough the vehivle can only be accompanied by someone who is transferring his residence to india after 2 to 3 years of living abroad.
so thats leaving me no option but to restore this part by part and since labour/ proffesional help is adeqaute here; if not cheaper.
The body work is being done locally here in India and should cost me close to 1000$ US. including cost of sheet metal and body press shop.
Yep, Mahindra does make jeeps here but restricted to 4 cylinder head CJ's alone...so that doesnt help me.
SO, where can i get body trim/ glass/ parts for my restoration?
You can get most parts you need right here at this site. In the Wanted Section you can seek the part you need. Don't add alot of parts at once in the first post as it will only confuse some of us.
Be patient if you want a good looking/shape part. New parts can still be found but are rare and usually expensive. Finding a very nice shape used part just takes a little patients.
Go to the Vendors Section on here and drool over the offerings we have there. Very nice stuff and nice businesses.
SO what is your plan with it?
A nice shiney show piece , something used as a regular car or modifying it to chase tigers and elephants with? :D
Here are my current Jeeps..

hey hoot..thanks for sharing you pictures, i did see a beetle in the background on one of the cherokee pics!! urs?
i got one too!! nice happy car running about.
yep!! i plan to be chasing true time tigers n elephants of the concrete jungle...for ex: honda's n merc's n bimmer's etc
i wanna very basic body with all original trim and chrome on the other hand im for sure going ballsitic with the paint scheme, maybe sporty looking.
will keep the original rims and swing in a new set of all terrain tires.
the interiors wouls def have clear ICED and leather...will work on the dash to keep it snappy
the trans and diff would be original and so the rest of the motor.
i wanna play around with the carbs, fuel trimmings, exhaust and air flow..
lets see bring it upto a moderate 250hp.
do u think i will be able to do that? :drivin:

hey hoot..I LOVE YOUR FSJ's dude :dancingbanana: super stuff
Where did you find that Jeep at?
Do you know Its history ?
Actually after looking at it again and looking at mine I realized that we are both in for the same thing basically. I bought mine from someone that started to restore then quit. I will be replacing everything in and on it before I'm done. The body and paint is the only thing that is not of concern on my Cherokee. Although I received all the original parts in boxes that belong to this Chero,I will be putting all new wiring harness, interior, drive train, and other assorted goodies. :drivin:
I've been collecting parts for years for mine, the time for building it is very near. Besides I need the room in the house back.

The beetle is not mine. The neighborhood in that pic is not mine either.
As for the engine question...
YES
I'm going fuel injected as well..

Welcome from Louisiana.
Your truck doesn't look so bad. Many of us started with something very similar, and used the opportunity to learn welding skills to patch holes large and small. I say if your truck doesn't have any large holes to patch then you're doing just fine. It should clean up nicely.

I know there has been trouble in the past between India and Pakistan, but maybe you need to contact this guy. This is an ongoing thread over on the pirate 4x4 site. A word of caution pirate isn't as friendly to newbies except in those forums marked for newbies. Any way Eshankiani takes pictures of some very good craftsmen who seem to specialize in making jeep parts by hand. He is also a member here but doesn't get on as much.
