I recently purchased a 76 Cherokee W/T - Cheif S, and it didn't have any mirrors on it. I just received a set of mirrors I purchased from another member(off of a 78 Cherokee) and they are 2 totally different mirrors. The drivers side has the cables and interior controls and is thicker around the actual mirror, the passenger is just the plain & simple standard mirror. I was disapointed because they don't match, but he stated he thought they were stock like that. Can someone tell me if AMC put 2 different mirrors on the same truck? AND, if they truely should match, does someone have a matching mirror to sell me? It can be either driver's side standard mirror(with rectangular bottom where it bolts to the door) or a passenger side internally adjustable with the bottom that is pointed at the front(where it bolts to the door). Any help is greatly appreciated. I just don't want my Jeep to look like it was put together by Dr Frankenstein as I drive down the road...

Thanks

That would be the remote mechanically operated mirror on the drivers side and an outside adjust only for the passenger side. This was std for small mirrors. There also were oversized mirrors with the tripod mounts.:)

Some didn't come with a passenger side mirror. My 78 wag only has the cable operated drivers side mirror and no passenger mirror.

Good to know. I know AMC mixed and matched all kinds of parts, but I assumed that at least the mirrors would match. I'll probably end up doing the driver's side mirror only.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I am not going to go with the crowd on this one...

As far as I know, even though the passenger mirror is outside adjust only, it will still look almost EXACTLY the same.. Thats how the ones that I have owned are at least.

If the passenger side one is the thin chrome style, then they are not a matched set..

Can you post pics?

With 70's QC being what it was, all bets are off.

My 78 Cherokee is that way also a standard remote on the drive and a POS manual on the pass

Had a 79 wag with drivers remote and not quite a match non-remote on pass side. My 81 has matching remotes on both sides. I suspect that the pass side remote was an option, and other types were either dealer or owner installed.

Thats just weird.. Why in the world would they put non-matching mirrors on a new ride? A non-adjustable mirror on the passenger side makes since as long as it matches the other one..

Whatever is cheapest for the company...

I have parted and owned a good many FSJ's and have encountered the miss matched mirrors numerous times. I had a collection of the odd pass mirror all being the same, but different from a couple different styles of drivers side mirrors. 80 and up I think that problem went away.

FWIW the 74, 76, 77, 79, 80 dealers sales brochures showing pics of the Wag/Chero's with the optional pass side mirrors are all matching pairs.

I'd guess most of the ones out there that don't match had the pass side mirror added on some time later. Again I don't know this but I've never seen any automaker offer a non-matching mirror for the the optional pass side.
As much as these rigs cost new back in the day I doubt the country club crowd would have accepted non-matching mirrors at yet another additional cost to boot.

I don't have pics currently, but both the mirror housing and the bases are totally different. The base on the driver's side remote comes to a point at the front, and the passenger manual mirror base is rectangular. Does anyone have (or could locate) a matching mirror for either of the ones I have? I don't care if it's a remote manual for the passenger, or a standard manual for the driver's side. I'll also post in the wanted section. I didn't think finding mirrors would be so difficult....

Thanks guys
