Looking in Edelbrock's catalog, I see that they list two different 600cfm carbs, one with EGR, one without. I would like to retain my EGR, but would it be possible to run the non egr carb? I know this may sound like a silly question, but I think I remember seeing several people with this setup. How would I run the vacuum to the EGR with the non EGR carb?

Without a real close check (got one on the Suburban) I seem to remember that the difference is just jetting. They still have ported and non-ported vac. They also have an "Emissions legal" card.

The diffrence is simple...You need the non egr carb. 1406 or the 1405. You egr is run off vaccum back pressure. You will need the egr manifold though. A egr carb is mainly for gm egr setups the egr hook straight up to the carb. I have the 1406(electric choke) and I love it. Have fun shopping and buying. Your Rig will thank you for it. :D

Keep in mind that Edelbrock and Carter think of EGR differently for their primary markets: Chevy, Ford and Mopar customers. The 1406 has an EGR port that these engines can use. The only difference with the 1400 is that it also has a purge port for the charcoal canister and a port for a line from the hybrid electric/warm air choke; the purge port is what enabled both the Edelbrock Performer 1400 and the Carter AFB 9635 to get C.A.R.B. exemptions for the small block Chevy engines before 1980.

The 1406 is still quite useful to AMC V8's that don't use the charcoal canister, because the EGR valve draws a vacuum signal directly from a port in the intake manifold (usually right next to the where the EGR valve sits).

If you want to keep all of your emission stuff going, however, the 1400/9635 will let you keep using the charcoal canister. That's the only functional difference.

How close was the jetting out of the box?

Yes the 1406 doesnot have a connection for the fuel bowl and that is it. I pass emissions with flying colors with mine. I even have visual inspeciton with out any problems. Every vehicle is diffrent. But mine does need to be jetted up or at least a meetering rod sized up.(richer). Out of the box it is great. I do get more ping than usual that is why I am thinking meatering rod. One stage richer should do mine some justice.
