The caddy 500 I have was from a 75' Deville and it has a balancer that was bolted to what looks like a "hub" instead of being pressed on. The "hub" looks like it needs to be pulled off to remove the timming cover but when I tryed to pull it off part of the flange that the balancer bolts to broke off. :-( Has any one else come a across this "hub" and gotten it off? I assume that if i heat it up i'll beable to pull it off but now I need to find a new one. Any Ideas?
THanks
Evan

What a bummer! Is that what you are putting in the J3k? How's the 73 doing? Good luck with the Caddy mill! smile.gif Sorry I can't be of any help but I'm caddy dumb! :(

Im going to put it into the 74 wagoneer I got for free. I swapped the caddy tail shaft out and put the tail shaft from the 73 in. Now the next big thing is making engine mounts. Before i put it in i wanted to change all the gaskets to stop the oil leaks and that when i ran into this problem.

The 73 is running pretty good but needs a new alternator so im going to try an other 51 amp I have.

when you take the hub off then you have to remove the key in the crank there are two keys and they are clocked away from each other as for motor mounts i got 1 set left $65.00 and they will be in the mail to you ...........................

How do i remove the key? I didnt see the key but i havent looked real close. These monts are for putting a caddy 500 in a wagoneer? If so I might be interested but have the tools to make my own? do you have pictures?

Thanks

I have alwso encountered this problem with the caddy motor I was gonna use in a buildup. I talked with the owner of monster torque specialties, he said it is fairly common on the older motors that have never been apart. They carry a lot of new and custom stuff for the caddy, they also buy and sell core parts, so he can get you a balancer or exhaust manifolds which also seem to crack often.

I got it off now with the same puller i was using before, it came of when I used an impact wrench. When it broke i was using a ratchet. I didnt see any locking key just one key way like all balancers have to stay lined up right. Now i think I'll get one from the cad company if i dont find one localy.

I was lucky enough not to break anything, I realized it was being stuborn and sprayed it down with PB plaster, let sit overnight. I never noticed anything different about the keyway either.

I dont think pb blaster would have helped on mine when I got it off it looked like they used plenty of grease when they put it on.
gsmike what kind of mounts do you have? are they a plate type? Do they use the stock engine mount? how do they mount to the frame? the stock engine frame mount is about 6" too far to the rear and moving it forward will be hard with the steering. Do you or any one else who has done the caddy swap have pictures of the frame mounts?
I was thinking of using a plate that bolted to the rear of the stock engine mount holes cast into the block.
