when i first bought my 89, the oil pressure only got to around 40 psi, after about two months it started goin up to aroun 50 or so, then i drove it from TX to NC with the psi slowly rising and it now gets in the 80 range, i think it might have pegged earlier today, at 35 mph, through out the vehicles life, the oil has been changed every three months, regardless of the mileage, it now has a little over 80k on the odometer. It runs fine, i drove it 4.5 hours here this morning, and ive been drivin it with high oil pressure for about two months, so my question is,is mine abnormally high? are the factory gauges known to act up? and what could cause high oil pressure?thanks yall.

I think there is something wrong with your gauge or sender. Hook up a mechanical gauge and see what it reads. Otherwise, let us know how you got such great oil pressure cause I sure haven't been able to get it above 45psi hot when read on a mechanical gauge. And that's with a newly rebuilt engine with lots of attention paid the the oiling system.

On the block behind the alternator next to the oil filter. (assuming you have an AMC V8)
