Hey ya'll.. can't you tell the disease has begun? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway... I don't have the slightest clue on how to take the radio out. The PO had an aftermarket on in there, but the face was stolen. Useless to me as tits on a bull. Anyway... its an 83.. with the older gauges and the metal plate front and glove box. How do I get the stereo out? I took the ashtray out, and I can see the stereo on the side, there was one screw on the side too.. I think I can get to that one.. but any other things I should know about?

*and wouldn't you know it*

MY folks looked at my Wag this morning and said...

"Gee... it looks like an old-folks vehicle."

OH MY GOD! I told them.. "Watch it, or I might haul you guys off to a old-folks home IN it!" http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Are there any small holes on each side of the radio? They should not be any larger then the one that are in front of CDROM drives. At lease on the radio I'm about to put in, has 2 catches on each side, and to release that, I have to insert a supplied tool. A large paper clip usually do the trick (at lease on CDROM drives).

You should be able to pull the glove box out, giving you a LOT more room to play. There should be like 6 or 8 screws holding the glove box in right near the door. My radios haven't used any screws on the sides, just the nobs holding it in.

Anthony is absolutely right...You have to remove the glove box....Be careful because they are very fragile to say the least. You have to scrunch it up a little to get it out (the glove box, not the radio)...Take out radio install new one and put glove box back.

to get it out the easy way(considering you do not care about it) use a slide hammer and yank it out

otherwise pull the glove box and remeber it may be bolted to a ground strap(map be the only thing holding it in

Like Woody said...On each side of the aftermarket radio should be a slot or a hole. These holes are for the tool that the radio manufacturer provides for insertions and removal of their head units. A screwdriver will generally do the trick.

Todays aftermarket head units do NOT use a ground strap 90% of the time, and you won't be able to remove it by only having access to one side by removing the glovebox insert.

Try 2 scredrivers, one on each side to depress the levers that hold it in.

GOod luck!
