tbi sending unit

has anyone here adapted a tbi sending unit into a fsj gas tank? or would it be easiest to get a gas tank from a tbi truck.

Personally I think it's easier to just use a tank from a car or truck that was already set up for fuel injection. That way it's already engineered for fuel injection.

Not that it's not possible, it is just a plasic tank so I'm sure you could basically cut and past.

For a GM based TBI (late 80's - early 90's), you can use a TBI external pump. I used a Master E2000, but there is another one (similar) that is now favored by the TBI conversion crowd. I have the stock fuel sender/pickup in my FSJ.

I would think that using plastic epoxy you could mate a flange from a tbi plastic tank onto the gw plastic tank. You could cut the tbi flange in a circle around it with some excess. then cut around the old sending unit close to the mounting flange ofr so the tbi one overlaps about 1-2 in over it. for the sending unit find one with comparable depth so you can use all your gas and your guage is acurrate. To glue your your new flange on the old tank just get that shpiffy epoxy in the self mixing tubes and then sand your flange backside and tank with something like 80 grit sandpaper so it has some tooth to it. lay a nice thick bead 1/8 -1/4 in. then just put the new flange on the old tank. that should hold up preatty well. if you dont trust it you could plastic weld it. Make sure that you check your position before gluing so the sending unit goes in the right way when your done.


if you plan on some extreme angles or lots of stop-full trottle pulls then i would suggest keeping your tank half full or more to prevent starving the pump due to not having baffles.

ps you need to ask someone else but for your guage to work you need one with the same resistance values
