hey guys-
i got my baby back!!!!! ok she looks alittle wierd with out her wood on the fender, since they had to take it off to repair it after the pep boys circus- i'll update ya'll later-
ok question-
how did fuel get into the vacuum secondary on the distributer-
she's been choking and dying - i tried to get her out and about last night and i thought well maybe she died because she wasn't warmed up- of course she died in the middle of the main road and would stay started and i nearly got plowed!
i would keep her in park and she does fine as soon as she gets into drive i press the gas and nothing.. like i turned her off- once i got her to go but i planted my foot to the floor.
help!!!

The only way I can think fuell would get into the distributer is if it went through the vacuum line. The only way I can see that happening is it either your timing is retarded, and its shooting gas and flames out the top of the carb (kinda unlikely, never seen that retarded timing do this before) The other thing is if something inside the carb is just wacked out. Seams really odd to me.

Word of advise!!! If you have fuel in the distributer DO NOT DRIVE IT!!! Fix the problem first because spark and gas do not mix. Hate to see your baby catch fire http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/eek.gif.

OK. Lets see. IF your power valve is externally hooked to the a manifold source, it is possible to get fuel into the line to the distributor because so much stuff is T'd together. That is, it is possible for the gasoline to be in the vacuum lines if the power valve is blown. Mine was that way for a while. The power valve has a diaphram that if broken lets fuel from the carb bowls into the vacuum signal side.
Uh, but you mentioned vacuum secondaries. Thats the arrangement where the throttles in 2 secondary barrels of a four barrel carb open based on a vacuum signal from the primary carb. More specifically, when enough air is going through the primaries, the secondaries open.

i'll let my boyfriend whose been messing with her read ya'lls ideas on what it could be-
i'm stumped she died on me again in the middle of the tollway this morning- we put a new fuel filter on yesterday- and she ran good all night- geez- could it be electrical?
could she die- i mean no spudder- just quits-
the timings right- we are going to replace the vaccum lines - its just easier that way-
its pretty cheap-
could it be my carborator?
where would ya'll recommend getting a rebuild kit- or a new one?

if it just dies....no warning and pumping the gas does nothing...I would speculate to say it is ignition or electrical......why you ask? because there is always a little fuel stored in the accel pump diaphram and pumping squirts out this fuel into the carb.

check the wiring and hoses and stuff around the fuel filter, i dont believe in coincidence.thats a busy area, coil and such, something coulda gotten loose. no sputter usually means electric probs.

Test the igntion by holding a high voltage wire near a good ground. If you don't get a nite blue or at least bright orange spark, then suspect the ignition.
