Ok, I'm fed up with the electric tailgate crap!! I fish a lot and am real tired of having to get my gear out of the rear doors over the top of the back seat:mad:. This will be my next project so not an emergency but any info is apreciated!!

The hardest part?
Finding a used setup in good condition that doesn't cost a fortune!
I will do it myself when I can find a NICE used setup.

Is is just as easy as pulling the motor (well that already sucks), and key assembly, and replacing it with the handle assembly?

I think the outside handle uses the same hole the lock cylinder/cover uses. You will need to swap the regulators, they are different. I have a 75 coming that he says is the manual window, but don't know the condition.

I did mine a couple years ago so what I remember is...
1)Be very careful in removing the electric motor, springs under tension

from the following link
http://www.ifsja.org/tech/tailgate/tailgate.html

Okay, WATCH YOUR FINGERS. The regulator has a spring and it is taut. It will try to seek the window up position with a vengeance once you remove the electric motor. Especially if the arms are near the window down position. Hold a regulator arm with one hand and be ready for a lot of spring pressure. Now, work/pry the motor loose. Let the regulator arms go up slowly until they find a place to rest. Then unplug and remove the motor.

2)Replacing the electric lock requires a torx screwdriver, you can snap the pin off allowing the use of a conventional driver. The crank handle pretty much bolts in.

3)Consider getting the lock re-keyed to match the door key before you install it.

Removing and replacing those window arm clips (Where the regulator arms mount to the window channel)is a pita. I'd buy a few just in case yours breaks or 'flys away'...
Otherwise it's a straight forward swap, I also seem to remember you won't need the spacers behind the power regulator for the manual one.

The swap was just a straight forward and bolt in

After I took the electric window, regulator, lock out the "new" regulator and lock bolted in perfect. I put the glass in and used washers with a little "c" shaped clip to hold the glass on (I got that idea from here some ware)

It really was and easy swap.

This all the parts (exept the retainer clips)

In the Haynes manual it says something about putting a bolt or something (manual not in front of me) in a hole of the regulator so that the harm do not fly up when it is unbolted. Best I could do without the manual which is at work.
