I made my own magnetic drain plug. The next time you change your oil, remove the drain plug and drill a hole in the face of the plug that is inside the engine when installed about 1/4 inch deep and 5/16 inch in diameter. Clean the plug carefully using solvent or brake clean. Epoxy or JB Weld in a magnet 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch diameter into the plug. You now have a magnetic drain plug.

I read on the list about the magnetic strips through J C Whitney that you put over your oil filter to capture metal particles in the filter for 18$. Why spend the $? I went to a sign shop right next door to a local restaurant that I frequent and asked the guy that runs it for any scrap magnetic vinyl sign material. I told him that it didn't matter if it was printed. He gave me a piece of white magnetic vinyl about a foot square and 1/8 inch thick. More then enough for 10 trucks just for the asking. Now I have 2 magnetic strips on all 4 cars and I took my wife to lunch with the money saved...and all you married folk know just how pleasant a happy wife is! So, try a little Yankee ingenuity and keep your "significant other" happy with a small gesture.
