I was jump starting the old girl today and she started up fine. Until...the belt pulley cut through the positive cable and the car stalled.(Before anyone says it, I've beaten myself up worse than anyone else will be able to...so onward)
With the next set of cables SAfely positioned, I tried to start her again. This time, I was greeted by BIG sparks flying from the positive terminal of the dead battery. Furthermore, when I turned the ignition off, the engine continued turning over until I disconnected the Jumper cables. My thought is I fried the solenoid. I hope I didn't kill the three month old brand new ignition module. Any thoughts on what I probably have killed?

And yes, before anyone asks, yes, the cables were connected to the correct terminals.

Sounds like the solenoid to me!

If the solenoid was the problem, then it would not turn over at all. Something must be hooked up wrong. That is my guess anyway. It did not do it before...and just replacing cables would not do this.... With the jumper cables connected you are giving the solenoid power, which is usually provided by the ignition switch and it keeps turning over until you disconnect the power source, the vehicle jumping the rig. That is why I think something is not hooked up correctly. But this is just my guess...hopefully someone that has done this shows up!!! Good luck to you.

And because it's always nice to know how these things turn out: I replaced the Solenoid and she started right up. Another heartbreaker narrowly avoided. Ride on.
