Tailgate

I found a '73 jeep in the junk yard, and it has a manual crank tailgate. It works, but can I remove my electric key and insert the manual crank and just remove the wires and motor?

that looks like what PO did on mine.all the wires were still laying in tailgate shorting out to body.so make sure to take all out they go to harness under frame and have connectors on them.
