This is close enough to me that I'm going to go look at it before I decide to bid/offer, but from this photo would you guys say "dent" or "shadow"?

I think its a dent. Your talking that crease looking mark on the "dogleg" right? Very clean looking rig though, you barely notice the dent (if it is a dent, that is)

I would say that it's probably a shadow, but I would bet it's a shadow caused by a dent ;) Took me a minute to see it, though. Not bad at all.

Looks like two dents to me.. A short one above, and a long one below the body line..

From the way the rest of it looks though... WHO CARES.. Thats a sweet rig...

Dent. I don't see any way it could be a shadow, other than one caused by a dent. Looks pretty nice though.

Nice rig! but is it worth 13k?..

:lol::lol::lol: That's what I think too...

Worht 13k? It's hard to say, very low mileage and very clean. I've looked at so many "rust free" Wagoneers that would take $8,000 to $10,000 in rust repair and paint to look like this that I'm considering it.

I called my dad, since the Jeep is his and he said there is one very small crease as you detected in the photo. It can be fixed pretty easy and he is willing to take a little off for that. How does 12k sound. Thats knocking $1000 off. If you still want to see it, let me know. The jeep is very rare in that the miles are original and these things are worth a fortune. Look at the sites below and see what these guys are asking and getting for their jeeps:

Best Regards,

Seller

Granted, this is one clean and unabused vehicle... but does every FSJ have to be compared to Wagonmaster?

i dunno, for 13k id expect to see black underneath, not all kinds of surface rust. with only 33k on the clock it makes me think this was the winter wheels for the owner...

12K?! "oh,but look what these guys are getting for em!" anyone care to guess how many wagonmaster customers suffer from buyers remorse?

c'mon man!

if you really want a "pristine" one,go get a west coast GW for 2 grand. couple grand for a motor/tranny overhaul. couple grand for a good paint job.... half the money and you know what you have.

if you think you want this one,let the auction end, then make a realistic cash offer.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth:

1) It's a dent
2) The current owner says "The jeep is very rare in that the miles are original and these things are worth a fortune" People don't pay a fortune for FSJs, hence they aren't worth fortunes. I can almost gaurantee that if you don't buy this for 13K, no one else will. I paid $3800 for my Cherokee which has a few stone chips that have turned to surface rust and bad seats and carpet but in otherwise similar condition. I would consider it rust free and I think I paid more than most would have at that price. 13K seems quite high. Looks very nice and original, but more like $7500-$8500 nice.

On this same topic, what is the most anyone has paid for a (non wagonmaster or grandwagoneer.com) FSJ restored or original?

NO WAY it's worth $13K!!! That's ridiculous. Tell em thanks but no thanks. Be nice, so that a year from now when it hasn't sold, they'll think of you and you and make a reasonable offer.

Repair of that dent involves replacement of the dogleg and replacement of the ENTIRE rear door. (I don't like bondo. It WILL fail) Replacement of those parts also involves re-spraying the door (duh) and the entire rear quarter panel. You're looking at $5K worth of work, EASILY.

No offense (I mean that), but WOW! I'm glad you aren't my body man. No reason those panels need to be replaced. It would not be that hard to work those panels back into shape without using much more then a skim coat of icing once it was done.

But yeah, $13k is a joke. More like $7500 tops. And I would run away from any seller that told me FSJ's are worth a fortune.

Thanks for the pep talk... I'm not saying it worth 13k (or 12k because of the shadows) but I think one could spend 13k trying to get a Wagoneer looking like that (less starting with a GW as Mike pointed out).

Several things appeal to me on these old Wags... but regardless of what I start with I'm adding EFI.

Is there an advantage to starting with a Buick engine versus an AMC engine for converting to EFI?

LOL... aside from the creative description, that one is chock full'o bondo and rust.

I have my eye on two right now in the original paint, the '79 featured above and a '66 that was a West Coast vehicle that has been in Ohio for the past two years.

If anyone has/knows of a rust free Wagoneer (I prefer a Wag over a GW) I'm certainly in the market. This search has me lusting after Hammer's choptop body again.

Sure you could spend 13k getting one to look that good... but that would most likely involve many fixes/upgrades to the drivetrain. id rather have 13k into a fresh paint job and drivetrain than an original, no matter how low the miles.

Ha ha! I'm NOT a body man, but I am going by what I've been told whenever I've asked about body work. Most shops seem like they'd rather just replace the part instead of do actual metal work and salvage the original part.

They look up the area/part in the computer and it computes the price of materials and time, regardless of ACTUAL time and skill required. :(

I hear you. 99% of shops will take the easiest route in such a repair. Easy for them often means expensive for the owner.

Looking at the photos,

Look close at the bottom of the tailgate, and upper windshild frame there is rust starting.
Not a bad Waggy, not 13K in my book either.
I have not seen any pre-Grand wagoneer go for big bucks, it does not look like it would appeal to the big $ crowd, vinal bench seat, manual windows, (With a poor repair on one handle) non tilt, no cruise, looks like AIR system is missing (that might be the angle, but I don't see a diverter valve) limiting his market somewhat, did not detail unter the hood...

Nice Wagoneer, not a big $ Wagoneer.
I wish him luck.

Ummm, that was before I knew the price.... "F" that.. There is not a chance in you know where, that thing is worth $13K...

BTW.. I find it odd that he didnt even throw a rinse on that 33K motor..
