On the way home from work tonight the Eagle starts losing power going over Fremont Pass and just before the summit I'm moving at a graceful 5MPH. The Eagle can usually take that spot at 60+. Anyway, I pulled off the road and shifted into park to hear the sound of golf-balls going thru a blender...motor's shot. Made it about another 10 miles down the road, tailing smoke:whistle:, before getting pulled over by Lake County Sherriff. Sound Familiar?
Got a free ride home and fired up the Cherk for the first time in a month or so, went out and towed the AMC home. So, the Cherk gets to be a daily driver again. It's good to know it's up to the task.
The 258 is officially seized. A V-8 swap is sounding good all of a sudden:drivin:

Dunno, it did just fine. I've put like 2K miles on it and w/o warning it just, dies. Oh well.

Sudden catastrophic bearing failure? What's in the oil? At least you've got like a collection of other cars. Good to have the Cherokee right there, you should start up semi-stored vehicles once a week or so though. Now a V8 swap, is the eng compartment of the Eagle wide enough to fit a V8 without a lot of work? Another thought, considering fuel prices and reliablility and coolness etc etc, a diesel swap. An inline 4 diesel shouldn't weigh much more than the 258, ought to fit well, and would move the Eagle pretty well. I had the idea of putting the Nissan diesel from a CJ10a tug in one, since they were already in an AMC setup with a 727 trans. Just a thought.

If I swap anything power crazy in it would be a built 401 or a 4.X stroker but I really don't need another project now. I only got it to hold me over until I can get the J10 here, that and I always wanted an Eagle for whatever reason.
You could say I've got a 'collection' but not really. The Choptop is out of the question for driving due to the cold, the J10 isn't here so that leaves the '78. Great all around truck but just not on gas ya know.
Oh yeah, looks like the oil pump died. The idiot light never came on and the idiot behind the wheel didn't realize it until it was too late. Sounded like atleast one connecting rod went, possibly two.
