I have a 1988 ford dana 60 front end. KIng pin, high pinion, and 4.10 gears. From center to center of the sping pads is 36 inches. My wagoneer is at 32 inches. Has anyone had this problem before? I think that the only way to mount them is to make some brackets and to mount them outside of the frame to match up with the dana 60. If you have had this problem how did you fix it and can I see pics. :banghead:

As long as you have the tools and know-how, it shouldnt be too hard. Just build you some L shaped brackets off the frame then brace them with some triangle shaped gussets. Once you see a pic it will self explain. Sorry but I do not have any pics. I have been lucky enough to score a 79 60 front. :D

I just bought some metal to make my brackets. I am going to use 1 1/2 plates for the bottom pieces and then 1/4 inch plates for gussets. I will post some pictures soon.

1 1/2" plates

My concern would be getting them so wide that you will limit your turn radius.. You will already be loosing flex..

On my 73 3/4 ton j truck the factory put the springs on the outside. I agree that it wouldn't be hard at all, plus it would make it more stable.

Just my loose change on the matter.

My mistake not 1 1/2 inch plates. 1/2 inch plates and then 1/4 inch gussets. It is kind of overkill, but better safe than sorry.

With that level of fab work, why not just go with the coils? Your allready planing on doing a bunch of custom fab work, so why stick with the leaf springs? Just my .02$

I had thought about goint to coils. But it would take to long to do it and more $$$ than what I am spending know. Maybe in the future.

Yeah, the fab work involved in outboarding springs compared to switching to a linked coil set-up is not really even comparable..

Not that it would be that difficult to do, but the cost would not even be in the same ballpark..
