I'm looking for a NP229, and to expand my donor list for the U-Pullit places I'd love if someone could tell me what other makes, models, and perhaps even years used these. I know if it's from another make (like a GMC or whatever) I'll most likely have to open it and swap shafts and stuff but that's expected.

Thanks!

As far as I know only the FSJ's from 1981 to 1991 fit. The 208 will also go in but you will need the rear driveshaft from the same rig. Also I have a NP 229. Here I thought I would add this link from our own tech section ;)

The 229 was available from 1983-91 in any FSJ except J-20 trucks nor in any 1986 when the 228 replaced the 229 for that year only. From 88 on it was the standard x-case in GW's. Prior to 88 other x-cases were available but the closer you get to to the late 80's the more likely it's a 229. As a side note the 229 only came behind AT's so if you find a manual tranny Chero/truck...keep looking.
