Well the title says it all. I picked up my "new to me" Cherokee this weekend. When I got there we replaced the gas tank with a unit that Glenn sent from Texas. Now I totally understand why the frames rot on these. There was dirt and sand and even a dead rat stuck on the side of the tank. I think eventually I will just replace the tank with a rear mounted one. The grommets on both tanks were a little dry but the two on the old tank seemed in a little better shape so we reused those. The front grommet now leaks when the tank is full and of coarse the smell is not nice either. Driving 1,100 miles with the smell of gas is not something I would want to try again. Anyway I would like to find these grommets if anyone has a line on some. I don't know if silicon would seal the grommets or not??? The Cherokee was super sweet and the trip was well worth it. On the plus side we got around 14.5 miles to the gallon and even managed 15.5 in New Mexico!!! All of that mileage from a 360! Makes me scared to fix all of the vacuum leaks. I have never in my life got better than 10 out of a FSJ! Oh and the the Cherokee is a 80.

I got mine from www.bjsoffroad.com (http://www.bjsoffroad.com) ... I took pics of the rubber grommets and sent them to him and took about a week to get them to me.... Brent really does a GREAT JOB helping us out with the FSJ parts.... THANKS BRENT!!!
My tank did the same thing the day I bought my wife her 80 W/T Laredo and topped it off... leaked for over an hour! I thought the tank had a hole in it till I found the dryrotted rubber grommets....

Cool. How much were thay and does he have them listed on his site? The old ones were so dry I had a hard time getting them back in the tank. Right now I will do anything to get the smell of gas out of my rig. Good thing I don't smoke!

Guess I should have looked at his site first. Looks like he has everything I need. I hate dropping gas tanks!

Got them for mine from the local Jeep Dealer. Approx $9.00 I think. That was only 2 weeks ago. Would think a 80 Chero would be the same.

I got them for around $7 each with the IFSJA discount from Brent..... they are not listed on his site... but I know he is keeping info elswhere for future use like this...
I had used black elect. tape around the vents as a temp fix to make the grommets fit tighter against the tank... it works for a little while....

He actually has them listed on his site now and they list for 12.00. Maybe I will email him to see what sort of deal we can work if I get the sending unit and both grommets.

Any idea on how long it takes Brent to get to his emails? Emailed him yesterday and haven't heard back as of yet.
