What is the best route to go to match up a rearend wms-wms to the front d60 of my donor 78' gmc 1-ton dually? The 14 bolt in it is too narrow. Not even sure of the width of the front.(just got it yesterday) Are wheel spacers just asking for trouble? I intend to go w/ the hummer wheels also. It's not a daily driver if it matters. thanks, 68glad

Ok, there must be something i'm missing. I have a DRW & it is really narrow.

You have a cab and chassis 14 bolt. Not sure but what I think he's saying is that DRW hubs would widen a SRW 14 bolt...
I use a D70 HD from a GM dually pickup to match the wms (in my '80 project), it's the same as the front and it's beefier than the 14 bolt although the pinion is a lil harder to set up and disc brake kits are more expensive.

You sure it's a 14b rear? Most Gm Dually's came through with D70HD's.
Sounds like your rear isn't form a dually pickup, but rather a cab and chassis type. AFAIK you can just swap on some SRW hubs and have a normnal SRW WMS 14b.

Kaiser, I just assumed gmc...14bolt. I'll look tomorrow. Thats part of my problem. I'm wanting the same (or close to) rearend width to match the front dually & the width of a srw isn't enough. This has surely been done 1000's of times but i'm just a newbie to the 14 bolt world and havn't figured it out yet. 68glad

As far as I know, reference the 14 bolt bible: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/14b_bible/index.html non of the 14 bolts will match the width of your dually front, GM used a D70HD that will... at 74" wms. You can go with a narrower 14 bolt, but you will need spacers/longer studs to match the front.

find a 3/4 ton gm van, the rear axle should be 70"
i believe thats what CrazyJeepman used

His wms up front is 74"... if he needs to find another axle I wouldn't look for one that will need spacers to match the front.

Yup that is what I had, but I still had to use 2" spacers Van 14 Bolt was 70 1/4" WMS and the Dually 60 is 74" WMS.

I am just following this and had a couple of questions:
Is this front Dana60 DRW too wide for the front of a FSJ?
If so, then would the cost of narrowing to match the rear 14B/Dana70 be a good investment?
I have a 14bolt SRW in the rear of a '93 GMC Vandura 3500 Diesel Donor.
What is the WMS-WMS of this van axle and would it work in a FSJ?

Okay...that answers my one question

The only real difference between the SRW and DRW front D60 is the hubs, so they both bolt in the same and the hubs can be interchanged. The DRW front D60 would only be "too wide" if you did not use dually rims or the H1 rims with the same offset. There is no need to shorten the axle housing, just swap the hubs out to SRW if you want the 69" wms rather than the 74" wms.
