View Full Version : The Saga Continues - Motor Mounts Anyone?

Well it seems I have a bad motor mount which is causing the engine to torque enough to push the fan blades into the shroud which killed my water pump (previous thread "See What Happens?"). I did verify that the mount is bad: When you put it in Drive with your foot on the brake and give it gas you can actually see the left side (drivers side) of the motor lift up 3 to 4 inches. So, now that I know what the prob is and I have a whole weekend to work on it, I'm going to replace the motor mounts. How difficult is this and will I need and special tools? Thanks!

Actually it's not to bad a job. Support motor with jack and remove mount(one at a time) and replace them. No special tools needed but it's nice to have a cold beer when you are done! http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/smile.gif

I agree not that bad of a job as long as you have a big enough jack or a stock rig. one side at a time is the way to go. I broke both of mine on a recent trip wheelin, you know 2 wheels in the air low range and a little to much gas was all it took. Limped home replaced them and chianed them down with turn buckles. So now when I hit the dirt the same time a disconnect my swaybar I since down on the turn buckles and no more bad or broken motor mounts. Good luck and have the coronas iced.

Isnt it funny how no matter what ya got and how far ya modify it, it still always seems to come down to chains and big pry bars heheheh.. Gotta love farm technology.
