I like to think these threads help us plan stuff out..it gets so distracting focusing on the little stuff and losing sight of the big picture..rigs to play with that run!

Here's mine:

Chero #1: Hammer.
Get intake and carb installed.
fix floors
install 4 Toyota seats..two from a 90 Celica, two rears from 93 Corolla.
evaluate rest of mechanicals and see how good it is. sat for a few years.
keep collecting 3/4 ton conver. parts. Have everything sans front SOA kit, and custom driveshafts.

Chero 2: Sundog. Daily Driver (not so much since I got the Volvo, but is insureed and reg'd and will drive). Clean it. It needs nothing really after I fix my broken tranny filter bolt tomorrow. Maybe install locker after winter is over for next spring/summer wheeling adventures (I WILL conquer Poughkeepsi!)

J3000/300 project. My main deal this winter. Swap J300 cab and willys style bed on the J3000 and put everything back together. I need this done this winter. Considering durabaking the whole thing if it comes in tan. Otherwise just paint the top and 'bak the bottom third.

misc: put back that 401 sitting in KRISTA's basement so she'll stop threatening me. :P
oh and rabble rousing and troll smashin' as usual.

Plans are to go SOA/RSF on my 77 Waggoneer. I will be ordering the Rims tomorrow I found a place that is having a 20% off of rim sale. I get 5 rims for the price of 4.

fall: drive the blue j10

winter: park the blue j10 when they start salting roads, swap a good 360 into the j20, decide what to do with the 88 wago and 83 j20 (part out or drive wago, part out or keep/swap drivetrain from j20), strip 79 honcho down to frame and catalog/organize usable parts, work on j-10 (primer any surface rust, rebuilt t-case, take a look at axles, tidy up interior, replace some more seals, etc)

10-28-2007, 09:09 PM
Finish 1 ton swap
Finish twin sticks
Fab door and cargo compartment pannels
Find and install better front seats
Relocate fuel tank
Fab front winch bumper (already have winch)
Fab rear bumper
Fab sliders
Finish pulling carpet and bedline interior floor
Chop top
Paint
Install all the engine parts that I have sitting around (intake, carb, HEI, MSD, timing cover, timing chain) and find a cam to top it off..

I wonder how much of this will actually get done... I cant wait to leave WA, and get back to my regular job in TX.. The 4 on 4 off schedule leaves a lot more time for the Jeep.. :D

Here's my winter list. Not in any particular order. I would like to do all of it but it's really dependent on if I can squirrel away enough money.

1. Get a new carb (750). Heck, I may even do that before winter.
2. Install NOS grille and other trim pieces.
3. Refinish aluminum bumpers, fab brackets and install.
4. Rebuild spare th400 with 2wd output.
5. Install 2wd front axle.
6. New rear axle (4.10 posi w/discs).
7. Relocate batery to rear.
8. Cold air intake.
9. Rear mount gas tank.
10. Quieter exhaust w/electric cutouts.
11. Steel wheels w/stock hubcaps.
12. Drag radials.

Well I got the snowplow stuff in order for the 82 today, I'd like to get my balljoints replaced before I push much snow.

Looks like I'm going to have to put timing cover gaskets in the 87 due to coolant leakage:mad: just did the water pump last winter, and i'll have to see what else I can get done over the winter.

Install A/C from Vintage Air (heat too!)
Cover the nakedness (new woodgrain)

i'm hoping for...
1) new front and rear driveshafts
2) lockers front/rear
3) warn premium manual locking hubs
4) 16x8 beadlocks with 35/10.5 boggers or
5) 16.5x9.75 bead locks with 35/14.5 boggers
6) break in the motor
7) finish up installing the tranny cooler
8) install an extra fuse panel and wire up the cooling fans, lights, fuel pump, and whatever else i want to add.

thing is though i need to get it out brfore winter so that heather's father can have his spot back in the garage. so at least 1, 6, 7, and 8 are teh first things that need to get done.

Here are "immediate" plans for my Wag:

1) Remove bench seats and finish cleaning, repairing and painting the floors.

2) R&R front spring stacks with heavier units to completely even the lift to get rid of the rake.

3) Undercoating.

4) Install new carpeting and put back all trim and TC stick boot assembly.

5) Upgrade to 4bbl, using 4-holer intake and 4bbl carb received of some of you good folks on the forum.

That is my wish list. What with helping with the garage building in Easthampton some to perhaps even all of this may become deferred. :o

My 77 Honcho is finally the object of my focus, provided I can keep buying kerosene to heat the garage this winter...I'll be POR-15'ing the frame, swaping the cab over..hate to do that when I can't really paint in the winter..
But primarily getting the frame and drivetrain ready for the body which is the focus of this coming spring...mostly custom fab as well. I'm giving up on keeping it stock...
Have a plow to pickup for it as well.

this weekend i should be finalizing the drivetrain swap on the cherk, get some exhaust put on and the next few weekends will be fine tuning it. crossing my fingers but i should be ready for my local wheeling group run on nov 10th, lets hope i don't break anything just yet.

other plans for the winter are swapping in the HD44/D60 combo (SOA) and shackle flipping the rear, jumping up to at least 36" tires, and wheeling the snot out of it!

I plan to learn how to rebuild a TH400 and a QT. Hopefully all goes well, and wont have to pay someone after Ive "learned" how to do it. Also plan to go through the top end of my 360. If its still runnning after all that, I may start looking at upgrading suspension/tires.

LOL... this is basically the one I was going to add after I got to the end of the post. I'm going to the local junkyard if I EVER have a Saturday morning free again and cut the sides out of a couple of refrigerators to use for floors.

I also hope to get my exhaust finished... I want to just run a pipe over to the driver's side that ties in past the muffler to simulate duals... it just looks funny now that mine is up in the air for the one pipe to go out the back.

LMK when & where!!

For TC, I'll be happy if I get this done in time for Moab:

master cylinder,
stainless hard lines,
maybe proportioning valve, (if needed)
Booster chk valve,
booster (if needed)
AC install - fab bracket, hang sanden off OBA York, lines, 134I wanted to have EFI by now but... to do it the way I want I am going to have to save up some funds.

If I actually by some miracle get all the above done and find myself with gobs of time on my hands  then I have plenty of other projects to do -- finish spotter cam install , replace broken hvac control, fix burned out instrument cluster light, install inclinometer, 3rd eye brake light, etc., etc., etc. ...

So far the Honcho has been a very reliable daily driver for me, which I couldnt be happier about. I do need to do some adjustment to the auto trans, and probably get a new filter and change the fluid while I'm in there. I also need to get a seal for the front right manual hub and get some wiring done for some new lights. Long term, I have more rust to work on, and a rear bumper to replace. Also I would like to put a hitch of some sort on it, and find a way to add front tow points.

This winter, Id like to focus on my 85, which I've neglected since I got the honcho. The Honcho was to be my dd, but needed alot more than I originally thought, to get it roadworthy. Anyway, I'm hopeing to get my garage clean enough to bring the truck in and do some under the hood stuff. I've recently found a really nice motocraft 2100 for the 258 and mounted it up. Just gotta connect the vaccume and fuel hoses up and get some wiring fixed. Hopefully I can finally get it to fire up. I also have to redo some brake lines and get some rust work done. The interior has been gutted and sitting in the bed under a bedcap for about a year now, so I would like to fix the rusty floors and get that back together aswell. At some point, I'm going to need to find a suitable stock seat or set of seats, as my bench seat is pretty much shot.

I'm gonna have to get a new battery for the Wrangler before I do anything more to the fsj's though, It's starting to give me problems starting and that will only get worse as it gets colder around here...

I am almost finished collecting parts for my M715 crewcab project.

1st step is to swap out the axles in the Chevy crewcab 3500 chassis I have for the Dodge Cummins version 3.08 geared Dana 61/Dana 70U axles.

Next step is to fit the body to the chassis and then install the drivetrain.

Hopefully will have this project finished and on the road by next April.

Winters here are very pleasant most of the time, so there definitely will not be any downtime due to cold tempertures or snow. LOL I should be able to work on it every weekend.

Replacing the blowed up 360 with a fresher 360, desmogging, exterminating the 'lectric gremlins, and sorting out the power windows. Was going to re-upholster, but I'll prolly just use the multi pocketed seat covers from Cabela's; leather is way overrated here in the Desert.

Prolly have to mosey on down to Mexico and get the R-12 redid. R-134 just don't get it done around these parts.

Well... got the MC in and booster chk valve... pedal height is still not quite where I want it (maybe need to bleed again or maybe prop. valve). But the fronts engage when they should, now (so the quick takeup valve was horked, it seems). Got *some* of the SS lines in...

So, what with the recent break in, the new projects are:

Install new door jamb switches so car alarm will work
Install cheapo car alarm on hand (and save up for good one)
Replace triangle vent window that was busted
Since the dash bezel is busted up, replace hvac unit
Replace dash bezel
Buy & install head unit and amp
Permanently install subwoofer in secure locationAs for the old projects...

Install Sanden AC with R134a
Finish stainless line install on rear axle
See if I can't scare up money for new/reman steering box
Ditto, new/reman brake booster
DONE:
Master cylinder,
Stainless hard lines,
Booster chk valve

I am going to take 2 jeeps and make 1.

I have to part out the body on my 79 chief (the heap) then go completly go over the engine, frame, axles. Basicly a frame off on the frame. Then I am going to take the body that used to be Sitting Bull and put it on my frame. I will have another thread soon about this.

I also will continue to keep my wife's 79 wag on the road. It is her DD.

Got a '76 cherokee a couple weeks back after being Jeep-less since I moved down from Avon Colorado to Aurora Colorado a few years back... So, now the wrench spinning begins.

This weekend:

Replace failed fan clutch to eliminate infernal failed waterpump sounds...
Examine PO fab'd 4 barrel to 2 barrel adapter stack, maybe fix and put 4 barrel Carter toilet back on the engine. Maybe buy new carb and put on engine to bypass the need for "engineering"...
Emissions tuneup (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc, etc.). My last Jeep lived in an area where we didn't have emission checks, so I'm not sure how much cash I'll have to leave under the driver's seat to pass down here in the flat-lands.
Take up residence under the Jeep for a day to lube and look for any upcomming 'issues'.
Take measurements for new rear wheel tubs, then price the tin for the fab.
Eyeball the on-board air system and price parts to fix/correct. (two leaks in hose, no oil sep system) Drain holding tank most likely.
Examine PO fuel tank "fix" for supply/return piping problem. Check Pull-N-Save for new tank most likely...
Unbolt passenger side front roll-cage support and use comealong to bring inboard about a half an inch, rebolt, enjoy use of window crank again. While there, see what it'll take to mount the roll-cage correctly...
Find exhaust leak and make determination on temp repair. A new exhaust system has been budgeted, but it must pass emissions before the 15th of Jan.
And if time permits - grab some scrap iron and play with the new wire welder to familiarize myself with any quirks it might have.:drivin:

Dang...you guys are gonna have all the fun.

This is Terra's life:

Winter Go over to the in-laws and load/unload a couple of rics of wood. Load up the back end with bags of cheap top soil (cheaper than kitty litter and when it gets wet it's heavier). Pray for snow and not ice on the roads so I can drive everyone to and from work, and keep ready for just-in-case. Make a list of things that need repair on the house, cars, Terra (especially her door and window seals).

Spring Unload the topsoil and drag the mower down to the shop (expensive toys need real mechanics). Go over to the in-laws and get the unused wood off the deck and restack it by the pasture fence. Go over to the neighbor's house and play in the mud for a little while then pull the boat around front and see if I can get it to run this year. Buy the things that I had on my list (Terra is way down the list and sometimes money runs out before anything is bought :( )

Summer Go trail/backwoods driving and find more old cars that need new homes (some actually make it out). Hook up the trailer and go over to the in-laws and load/unload hay bales and eventually get to wrench on something. Drag the boat to and from the lake a couple of times. Cussing because the motor wouldn't stay running (I just need to buy a new motor, but Buick 225's are getting made out of unobtainium these days)

Fall Go over to the in-laws and load/unload rics of wood to stack near the pasture fence. Do last minute repairs and clean out the gutters along with the fireplace. Do last minute wrenching and repairs at home. Drag the boat back around back swearing it will run next summer because it ran for hours in the driveway. Look at my list of things I wanted to do and shake my head because Terra didn't get more than simple stuff done and it will be cold again this winter without replacing the seals

See Terra is a work truck that rarely gets attention. The first year was the best when she got a new reman motor (after limping home from Memphis dragging a trailer with stuff for my brother's house) and new seals/gears in the rear. I really need to go through the tranny, but everytime I block some time off, something comes up and I have to use and abuse her some more.

In other words...........I"M JEALOUS ;)

Cut the grand wag off behind the rear doors
Use a spare set of front doors to get the metal to graft onto the rear doors to make the rear edge squar like the front.
Extend the frame about 34"
Extend the wheelbase somewhere around 20"
Start the new buildup on the rear for my new expedition style rig for long term runs in the backcountry.

Well my winter projects mostly consist of gathering parts till I get home in March, However March is still considered winter in upstate NY so this should count right? Anyways heres the list:

1. Install 208 and rear driveshaft
2. Install roof rack
3. Find spare rim and tire, put on roof rack
4. Install front Aussie Locker, w/ unlocking hubs
5. Have rear Diff gears welded
6. Trouble shoot rear window and fix or replace
7. Remove all carpet and rhino line interior
8. Install new front seats
9. Make new door panels
10. Wheel the snot out of it!

Now if any or all of this gets done I will be supprised.

Install 6" Hell Creek lift on 83 Chero. Lift is here - just need some free time and gut the interior for floor repair.

Fine tune the J715 and work on the interior.

And - although not a Jeep hoping to roll this in to the garage by the end of January and start playing with it.

There are the things I would like to do, and then there is reality. I'll concentrate on the latter.

Winter

The J200 is tarped and sitting next to my friends garage. Finish creating a workspace in the garage that does not belong to me (Build a work bench, finish fixing the garage doors, fix the windows his kids smashed, fix the sagging roof and shore up a corner where the foundation washed out)

Rebuild the TH400, Dana 20 and go through the Buick 350. I have complete confidence in my ability to do the transfer case, I can handle most things with the motor but the Transmission I might just farm out.

Dispose of the monster pile of rotten firewood/scrap wood and bricks/rocks I acumulated cleaning up my friends yard/basement and house.

Gather parts and plan whats next.

Spring

Stain my friends deck, except for lawn/landscape maintenance my rent for workspace is now covered.

Untarp the J200, pull the drivetrain and swap in the B350/TH400/Dana20.
Finish rewiring the entire truck and register and inspect it.

I'm lucky my friend doesn't have a clue as to how to do anything, his wife doesn't mind cause I get stuff done quick/cheap and I get a free spot to work on my junk and a couch in the basement to crash on if I pull a late one. Thats it.
