It looks very authentic to me. It looks to be a 65 Wagoneer, just like the plates indicate, and appears to be a factory right-hand drive.
I would have to say it's for real! Nice find!

to be honest, 79-83 2 & 4 door cherokees are rare enough in australia. then there were only 20 or so grand wagoneers ever sent here. but this thing? - in that condition? - its something else altogether!

Man, that thing is gorgeous!
Everything looks stock and correct to me - except the vent covers are on sideways. :D
Or maybe they go horizontally in the southern hemisphere and vertically in the northern....
HOLT needs this Jeep as a stable mate for his truck!

Sweet! I only saw 3 FSJs when I was in Tasmania last year, but that was 3 more than I thought I'd see. One looked like an early 80s Wag, another an early 80s Cherokee, and the other I saw only quickly, but looked like also an early 80s Cherokee, bobbed ute style (think short flatbed, folks!). I don't know if the ute style was factory, or do people do their own? I like that one the best. The other two were just wagons. But still neat to see. Seeing one of these 60s wags in that condition in the states is hard enough, but in Oz....way cool! Thanks for sharing!

18- you need to add that to the stable---- then you would have one from 2 years after production started and the one from 2 years before it ended:D :D :D
Very nice rig

Road salt is a conspiracy by the auto industry to continually rot out older vehicles and force you to buy newer ones. Planned obsolescence more or less. Well, ok, maybe it isn't, but it seems like it sometimes.
Lots of places either use salt directly or a salt/sand mixture to spread on snowy or icy roads. The salt "melts" the ice and some snow, which supposedly makes for safer driving. Sadly, it also "eats" metal..... :(
You don't get much snow or ice up in Sydney though, do you? That's probably why it's a foreign substance to you.

we got snow in the mountains around here recently during winter - a very, very light cover for about 2 days - made the news & the kids got to have a good time & that was about it.
yes, thankful we dont have road salt, for sure.

yeah, that looks like the one i saw being rebuilt at hammond jeep in brisbane. It was found in byron bay (i think) and someone spent loads on it. There was a story about it in jeep action magazine about 18 months ago.

Salt helps the damp sand to flow from the hopper of the sander mechanisms of the town trucks doing the side roads here. Pure salt is used on the major highways to reduce snow bulk.
Such treatment in my experience makes the driving much more hazardous in most cases, as dry cold unsalted snow is "squeaky", which means more grip than the slush generated when salt is added.
But they will continue to throw down salt, despite what it does to our property when we drive over the road, to say nothing of the severe environmental impact as regards plant life and the aquifer.
The ability of salt to reduce snow bulk on the main roads helps save a large percentage of fuel that would otherwise have to be used to move the snow.
Thus our martyrdom carries on. :(
I'm envious of the Aussies in this respect, that's for sure.

Yes, but it also lightens our vehicles after some time and helps us use less gasoline...
