It's the small center grill in the 62-64 Wags and 62-69 Gladiator trucks.
You can see an example on my 63 Wag at http://www.ifsja.org/readers/wagoneers/schaefer.shtml

Man that thing is beautiful! Very nice job. I love that it's a GW and it doesn't have the kitchen shelf paper fake wood. That is one clean looking GW!

I just redid my website. I added a few pics and some dialog. Maybe y'all can see the truck better.

Thanks for the encouragement.

It was used up until '65. I hate to sound like an a-s but I guy on the base has a '65 that I was going to buy and it has the Rhino on it. I do not know about the trucks though. I thought they used it up until '71 on the trucks? Help me on this one.

Technically PC you're correct, the grill was used somewhat but dropped in 65 on the wags. Not many 65's got'em though. Trouble with proving either/or is those rigs had no model year designation in the serial number so you just have to go by the title year and some states licensed them by year sold not model year. Only real clue is by eng build date and by the build code date on the ring gear of the D44 rear axle and neither pin down when the rig was actually built...just the components.
The trucks last year for the BBQ(rhino to some) grill was 1969. The new grill(wide) came out in 1970 but the name Gladiator was still in use till 71. So there are two years, 1970/1 that are still Gladiator models but have the later grill. Confusing huh? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

gbarrett, have you had any luck finding chrome bezels to fit over the Mercedes headlamps?

you'll have to help me on my history here but I thought they ussed the rhino to the end of 70 and dropped the gladiator name in 71, or am I getting those confused? somwhere in there Kaiser was bought-out but I'm not sure when on that either. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/confused.gif

Thanks for the kudos!
I haven't found bezels for the Mercedes lights, BUT a friend of mine is making me custom bezels then I'll have them plated to match. When they're done, I'll post the latest pics.

This is the MOST USEFUL site on the web!

They used the Rhino into, but not all the way through, the 1970 model year (probably about the same time the Wagoneer got the new checkerboard grille). AMC purchased Jeep in January of 1970, part-way through the model year, but it seems the change was already in the works, if not actually in production.
