the kit available from crown hasnt gotten good reviews. what are the problems with the electric? most are pretty common and easy to fix.

Like Andy said the Crown kits aren't worth it and so far as I know they're the only ones available other than a used one from a donor rig. It's a pretty desirable item and about as rare as a working rear wiper motor. Unless you can live with an inop window for an extended period of time while searching...I'd just fix what you have. There's a good write up in the Tech Library on the tailgate repair.

If you want to do the conversion you will still need to do this to get thr gate to open Correct ? This is how....If has been up for a long time Pull the service panel and saturate all the arms and hardware with WD 40 or the like and let it sit for a while. Pull the 2 wire motor plug. Apply hot and negitive ( + and -) to the wires going to the motor with a batt charger or run wires from the batt itself.( tie the wires to the motor leads and leave enough slack so that the window can come down all the way WITHOUT pulling the motor wires off ...Change the polarity at the batt or charger) NOTE if motor does not work with a KNOWN good voltage source to the motor leads ...STOP and remove the motor to free uo the gears and manualy push the window down ))) Motor will eather try to go up or dowm .swap the wires at the source if its trying to go up . With the window down... open the tail gate ... on the drivers side in the upper inside corner you will see the safety switch mounting screws. Take them out and pull the safty switch out, cut the wires to it and solder them togather try your window from the switch on the dash ..I bet it will work now . If it dosnt look at the wire bundel as it enters the tailgate look for broken wires here .
