I see narrow track axles for the D44 seem plentiful in the catalogs. Are the wide track axles harder to get? Where did you guys get yours?
Lookin for the full set, inners and outers, for my 79 j-10. Any certain brand you like or dislike?

Most manufactures will make them in what ever length you need..

Based on the price of aftermarket shafts I just do not think it's worth the $$.
It's still a D44 no matter what you do to it.
At $147.50 (Moser) for outer shafts I would hate to see what inner shafts cost.

I just hate being the "just get 60's" guy..

There are plenty of people that would rather nickle and dime a D44 instead of saving up for a D60, even though it ends up costing the same for a lot less axle in the end..

If you want to run a mildly built rig and 31" to 33" tires and drive with the proper caution then keep the 44. If you want 33's and drive tougher terrain then start looking at a 60. If you want larger than 33's you have to move up to the 60.

I have seen way to many people spend several $?,000.00 on up grading a 44 and in the end have to upgrade to a 60 for the front.

You are doing the right thing and asking questions.

Good luck on your project.
