Where the motor numbers at

I would like to check and see what motor is in the cherokee I brought in. so where do I find the numbers?

Look on the driver's side of the engine block around the motor mount. You'll see a 360 or 401 if you're lucky. Also, 8th digit of the VIN will tell ya. I forget what the 360's are labled as, P maybe, but the 401's are 'Z' codes.

'N' would be a 360 2 barrel and 'P' is a 360 4 barrel

I think motor tags are on your left side valve cover it you are looking at the motor from the front. Passenger side if you are sitting in the driver seat. Codes are only good if its the original covers, or if some one took the time to switch the right one if they changed the covers..:rolleyes: ... Easiest way, look on either side of the block near the top of the oil pan. Displacement is cast right in.
