Ok,
I've searched and searched, but can't find any concrete statement on what the temp gauge should look like on a correctly cooling rig, pre-chrysler model.

Mine runs anywhere from 1/4 of the way over in the green to just a hair over 1/2 way in the green.

My 70, at barely into the green, is a consistant 195. Goes a little higher but still tests out at 195 so far, is that too hot? GMC with 350 & new rad runs 180 all the time, summer, winter don't matter.

Coley.. ..
Your gauges may show a different read with lower idle voltage or unusual wire resistance to the gauge. When the engine is fairly cool carefully remove the radiator pressure cap and then warm the system up then, with good thermometer in the radiator check the real temperature against what the gauge shows. It may not be as hot as you thought.... There are other cooling ideas in the link below.. ..ds..

Thanks guys,
Guess I should have mentioned that I'm using a new 3 row rad, new 195 degree stat, and new 16 pound rad. cap (can't find a 15 lb. one), and have recently replaced the thermal fan clutch.
