charging

My 86 - 360 - had a charging indicator way up the red zone the other day, the next day I restarted it and it was way down in the undercharge red zone. Votage check on the battery while running shows 12 volt exactly. I would think it should be around 13 or 14 volts right? Any help on where to check , and how to check it, would be much appreciated.

Check the voltage at the back of the alternator (big red wire). Should be 13-14 volts, if not, replace the alternator.

Agree with chevelleguy, bad ALT. Sounds like the voltage regulator inside went T.U.

BTW chevelleguy, I used to enjoy spanking chevelles in my 70 GTO!!
