Hi

I have a 73 CJ5. The rear oil seal has a slight drip leak. I was wondering if anyone could describe for the the sequence of replacing this seal. I saw here the sequence for 258's..but not 232's. Is it the same?

I just had the transfer and transmission seals done. I probably should have had them do this seal, too, but I didn't think about it until now. I'm tired of the "drip drip" thing...

Is this as expensive a job as the transfer/transmission seal work???

Thanks!

Mike

Should be the same proceedure since the 258 is just an updated 232.
I've never had a shop change the rear but heard of folks paying up to $250-$300 to have it done.

Thanks>!

I was wondering. Is a rear seal leak more of a nusiance than a very serious problem (providing it is a very slight two dripper deal).

I've heard you can screw up a clutch if the rear seal leaks. I don't mind adding a bit of oil to the 'ol girl.
